i had a smiliar design on my audi and i just coated them with wheel wax and usually if i cleaned them at least once a week (which i always do) and didnt allow brake dust to 'bake' on them they sprayed clean every time with very little effort.

i have planned to change my rims too( to 19') but im afraid that putting a big size rims will make the ride of the car to be severely harsh.

RR - I don't think you'll really run into too much trouble, other than a harsher ride from the lower profile, and probably a little bit greater chance of bendng the rim in a big pothole...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

....check out these baby's! ok...here is what you are looking at.... 20 X 8.5 RAU RH Wheels in the front with 245X30X20 Michelin 90Y PS2's 20X 10 RAU RH Wheels in the rear with 285X30X20 Michelin 90Y PS2's these have the RH centers but can be done with the color porsche emblem (didnt have time to get them in at the shop today) centers. i love these wheels! I guess i like them so much because they are very close to the Cayman S stock wheels but just more agressive in a subtle way. they are nice and shiny too. a two peice wheel with a shiny polished SS lip that if it gets scratched, can be buffed out. are they expensive? uh huh......but imo worth every cent. i plan on taking my cayman to the track eventually and will use my 18's as my track wheels and these babys as my every day wheels. those of you who are more educated in the tire department may be wondering if i am yanking your chain on the tire size....the answer is no. lets just say....well........its top secret. anyway, what do you think?...like um? btw....the pictures just dont do these wheels justice.....in the flesh they are absolutely remarkable..... POST 2Original post

RedRocket - those are really sweet wheels on the Guards Red! And some of the best GR photos I've seen in a long time... makes waiting for mine a little more bearable (2 or 3 weeks away, I hope). Thanks. RedEye

POST 3Original post

Way cool. I like that fact that they look a little like the Cayman S wheels. I, too, wanted something like that, but not 18s. I am wondering if the GT3 wheels will fit the Cayman .

POST 4Original post

I voted 'yes' but you got to be prepared to clean all those little 25 holes.

POST 5Original post

yeah...you are right...but its not as bad as you might think. i had a smiliar design on my audi and i just coated them with wheel wax and usually if i cleaned them at least once a week (which i always do) and didnt allow brake dust to 'bake' on them they sprayed clean every time with very little effort. here is a close up of those 'holes'..... as an aside...do you guys (and gals) think i might run into trouble with such a thin line of rubber between the road and the wheels?....

POST 6Original post

I can only imagine what these wheels and tires cost, btw did this supplier ever decide about advertising here since they are at least reaping the benefits of anyone who sees these photos and wants these wheels?

POST 7Original post

Redrocket, I was a 'no'. Just 'too busy' of a wheel in my opinion. I also don't like the inset look, it is something that you see with 'spinners' and that just isn't my personal style. On the other hand, they are shiny. Paul

POST 8Original post

I think they look good, however I would prefer the standard wheels chromed. Has anyone had this done & if so where & how much?

POST 9Original post

yeah...i talked with them about becoming sponsors. im not sure why they havent done anything about it. my guess would be that they are fairly diverse (they work on all german cars) and since there are literally hundreds of forums for all the different cars they specialize in, they have to draw the line somewhere, or go where they get the most exposure. the other thing is that most of the forum users dont even own caymans...yet. one look at the registry and you can tell that only a small percentage of forum users are actually owners. i am hoping as time goes on that they will join in and sponsor. i guess time will tell.......

POST 10Original post

They look great, do they come with a gunmetal or black center with the polished lip. my croc is basalt black.

POST 11Original post

can you get them in smaller size? 18's or 19's?

POST 12Original post

you can get them painted alright...but whether or not thats a great idea has been debated. i feel more like it depends on the technique than anything else...they might look really cool in black, especially with that shiny polished lip. for the cayman they are currently only available in the 20 inch. the guys at GMP were using my cayman to get the proper fitment for the wheel. in turn they are helping me ship out a set of wheels i had on my audi. when they put them on i was really impressed....felt the sudden impulse to make another purchase for my pretty little cherry. if anyone is interested in the link....here ya go http://www.gmpperformance.com/index.cfm?PG=detail_wheel&PID=119937&VS=1 there is another set of wheels i fell in love with but they are even more expensive than the RAU's. The 3 peice turbo-p wheels.....ahhhhhhh......

POST 13Original post

I've seen some of those 2 piece wheels with the shiny ring and I think they look awesome. I saw a Cayman on the showroom at Princeton Porsche with that type rim, nice. I would consider a wheel that you was compatible with the Porsche shield, so that it doesn't look aftermarket. Rudy

POST 15Original post

I wouldn't put any 20" rim on the car because I think it's just too much wheel and too little tire. The size of the wheel begins to add a "comic book" look to the car, especially at the front, no matter how nice the wheel. I went with the 19" Techart Formulas after seeing so many 20" fitments that didn't look proportional and took away from both the car and the wheel. The 19" rim seems plenty large but still practical. I like the RH wheels a lot, they are very well made. The RH Cup wheel looks great on the Cayman and I had the Gemballa version on my 99 Boxster . Edited by - DaveC on 04/08/2006 05:53:01 AM

POST 17Original post

Please post a pic of the Techart 19's...they are the one's I am looking to get as well. Did you have to roll the fender for them to fit? I've heard conflicting info on the Techarts that are bigger than 18'. Thanks in advance

If had these, I'd be cheking my tire pressures at least one a week. brad

POST 19Original post

I went to the dealer today and my wheels are in, too bad the car is ONVESL. Car should be delivered between 15 and 20th of this month. Dealer was kind enough to mount a front wheel on their showroom display for me to get a pix. These are 19' Techart's painted carrara white to match exterior color w/ colored crests painted to match.

POST 20Original post

very pretty......post that pic on your car as soon as it gets in! check my other thread on 'favorite wheels' and put the picture there too. I am hoping we can get lots of aftermarket wheels on caymans in that thread since posting in the gallery seems to be at a standstill.

POST 21Original post

RR: nice rims! it definitely fit your car. IMO, it makes your car to looks like an elegance sport car! I also have a few questions to ask: how's the ride on 20' ?? i have planned to change my rims too( to 19') but im afraid that putting a big size rims will make the ride of the car to be severely harsh. how's the lowering too?does the ride become very harsh too? did you often scrapes the bottom of the car? thank you Edited by - -tokz- on 04/08/2006 1:33:41 PM

POST 22Original post

DaveC, I'm thinking that is going to be a great looking Cayman with those wheels. It really is going to have a Wow Effect. Just like Red Rockets. Both of you will spend some time keeping 'em clean.

POST 23Original post

Not sure if I like the 20' but the big lip on there looks HOT!

POST 25Original post

Not the best photo but the car and the wheels have found each other at last!
