Has anybody heard the Tubi exhaust system offered by champion motorsport. They claim it gives an extra 10 hp and 10lb torque and gives a deeper exhaust note. cost is about 2000 dollars. Kinda tempted, what do you think.....
I would wait for some actual testing to verify those claims. On the 996 Turbo the Tubi exhaust actually LOST horsepower in an exhaust shoot out done by Imagine Auto about 2 years ago. $2K is also very pricey for a cat back exhaust, but hey if you like it go for it. If they want to prove their claims have them send me an exhaust and we'll test it at Imagine Auto.
'Claim' is the operative word. Proof is what is required before parting with 2 grand.
K-Man S got 10+ horsepower for all of us, by just posting his dyno results.
Simple math problem: $58,900/295 ponies. That's about $200 per pony. And $2000/10 is also $200 per pony. Now wouldn't you think that an aftermarket source would provide more bang for the buck? And with the dyno 'proof', Porsche is providing a better value. Now, ain't that something???

fmarshall,
I actually got 20+ hp by posting my dyno results, but hey whose counting... /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wink_smile.gif
mrcohanian,i am thinking to put a tubi on mine, proberly will do so next month. just waiting for them to arrive at my supplier!
I'm a guy that always likes proof /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/teeth_smile.gif........so show me the HP/Torque increases and I'll think about it......until then it's all just hearsay. I've seen so many people mod Porsches for $$$ only to come out with a slower car overall.
I'm also always curious about the 'why' of seeking a few more h.p. by those who go this route. In normal everyday use I've not found my Cayman wanting in that department. And if the modifications means it must compete in a different class at PCA events it probably puts the Cayman up against much stronger cars. I understand the 'more is better concept ' but I'm not sure about how it will be used in the real world. $2000 spent at driving schools would give me as much additional performance as 10 real h.p. I suspect. Thoughts?
I've heard that they don't have a compatible exhaust tip yet for the tubi setup on a cayman
SF,
I believe that $2k at a driver school is worth a lot more than 10hp. Sure was for me when I went to Bondurant.

I'd be willing to change the tips to get something that looked better than stock, but that's about it. I scr-w-d around with exhaust, cold air intake, and chips with my BMWs (Dinan) and got nothing you could call a seat of the pants improvement. Changing the springs and shocks (Bilsteins for Boge) did make a difference in handling and looks with ride height, which I'd be willing to do with my Cayman once there's enough accumulated road time in other people's cars to see what really works.
Once again proving the old addage, that 'its not the weapon; its the warrior!!'.
fmarshall,
Yes! 'its not the weapon; its the warrior!!'. And that could explain why we see the 0 to 60mph range from 4.8 sec (R&T) to 5.3 sec.
I remember buying new golf clubs because I was sure my old ones were faulty, I am sure you know the rest.
