Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Bought a $300 used, non leaking, differential taken from a local RL's 996tt and had it swapped for my failing diff yesterday (FYI a new differential is north of $6k).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I posted recently about a leaking front differential producing a pronounced whine when off the throttle. Bought a $300 used, non leaking, differential taken from a local RL's 996tt and had it swapped for my failing diff yesterday (FYI a new differential is north of $6k). Went for a drive this morning and not only are all the whining sounds gone, the car's steering feels super tight again and all noise/vibration/harshness is gone. About a year or more ago, long before the whining sound appeared, I posted about a slight rubbing sensation I felt through the steering wheel. I chalked it up to road/tire noise and it had persisted, until today! The new (used) front differential has solved that issue as well. I have put 32k miles on this car in 24 months and was beginning to think I needed to address items in the front end causing a rougher ride then I remembered it having when first purchased. The car now feels amazing, what a difference a good diff makes!
