Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've had my radio replaced twice already (1500 miles).
Leading evidence: 'Replace twice already (1500 miles)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'probably in your key' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace ; it should be a warranty bulletin issue' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Believe it or not, the problem is probably in your key.

The bad news is that if it needs to be replace, I'll be without a radio on my 700 mile trip on Monday and then the return 700 back on Thursday

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

4 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

They tried to re-set the system by turning the key in the lock three times - that didn't work.
When I turn on the radio I get the usual '
PORSCHE
' but then it never switches on completely so none of the buttons or knobs work and I get no sound. All I can do is turn it on and off.
I couldn't find a radio reset in the manual. Any suggestions?
Pete,
Believe it or not, the problem is probably in your key. The key is programed to enable or disable items such as your radio. Call your dealer and ask?
Bob
The exact same think happened to my friend's radio in his 05
Boxster
yesterday. Apparently this is a very common problem with the radio unit in the 987's (including the
Cayman
's). You'll probably need a new radio. The good news is that it's covered under warantee.
I'm stopping by the dealer in the morning.
The bad news is that if it needs to be replace, I'll be without a radio on my 700 mile trip on Monday and then the return 700 back on Thursday
I guess I'll just bring the
ipod
and ear buds...
Pete,
Maybe the
Ipod
is better than nothing, but I tried mine in the car and it robs you of the experience of hearing the sound of the car. I have found a nice medium when listening to CD's as to where I can still enjoy the engine and
exhaust
note.
Good Luck!
Russ
Sleepless,
I had my
Cayman
in for the LATCH install and when I picked it up, the same thing happened. Fortunately, I just pulled right back into the service bay. They tried to re-set the system by turning the key in the lock three times - that didn't work. The tech ended up doing a 'new delivery re-boot' where it brought all settings back to the original delivery configuration. That ended up fixing it and I haven't had the problem since.
I did hear this was a common problem but hopefully the fix for yours is as easy as it was for mine.
i had the same problem on my
911
. All i did was switch off the engine and restart it.....worked fine after that. Please let us know what the dealer says
Apparently the
battery
power got below a certain level and the radio thinks it's been stolen. The car sat for about a week but it did start so I didn't think there was
battery
problem. I guess it is a bit sensitive.
Anyway, the dealer just plugged in their computer and that cleared it!
Depending on your
911
's model year, there is also an issue that existed with the CDR 23 and
Bose
where it would do the same thing (hang on the '
Porsche
' display) but was resetable by turning the car off and back on, as you did. The fix is to have the
Bose
Aux Amp replaced; it should be a warranty bulletin issue.
I think this is nuts - a car that can't sit for a week without draining the
battery
/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/sad_smile.gif Would be nice to see what the load is for different modes ie. car locked, car unlocked. I keep my car unlocked in a garage, and would hope the load would be small, but until measured that can only be a speculation. My car will be put away for the winter, so I will have to make sure to plug in a charger.

I hate electrical glitches!!/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wall.gif
a healthy
battery
in
cayman
will not drain out in one week. check to see if your turn signal stalk is on or if your V1 is on. if i leave my V1 on, the
battery
go dead in a week. otherwise, i can park it 3 weeks at a time with no issues.,
Same problem here see...Electrical gremlins above. Get a battery maintianer at the very least and lock the car when not in use and do not leave the key in the ignition.
Happened to me today. Drove to work without the radio or cd player working. But when I unlocked my car to drive home it fixed itself and was back up and running. Looks like it really is the anti theft not disengaging properly.
I assume that with the car locked, the alarm would be armed and use more juice. Anyone here use one of those solar
battery
maintainers? A gimmick or something useful for those that park outdoors?
