Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've heard of others setting a CEL when trying a cold air intake.
Leading evidence: 'Set cel' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Set cel' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I've also heard that when a MAF CEL is set with a CAI that oil on the air cleaner is often suspect.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I made a support out of a couple of sections of steel/copper coated MIG wire, then covered it with a sock for an air cleaner. I've heard of others setting a CEL when trying a cold air intake. I only went for a brief drive today but did not set a CEL. Perhaps I need a few engine cycles to be sure. I did not add any flow straightening grid before the MAF. I've also heard that when a MAF CEL is set with a CAI that oil on the air cleaner is often suspect. I'm not using any oil. I might change out the sock to some bulk foam air cleaner material. On the drive today, I'd say the car felt slower if anything. I can definitely hear a difference. I can hear air rushing into the engine even on the freeway, with any type of acceleration. Unfortunately the sound is not particularly enticing. But I'll try it for a while and switch back if I don't like it.
After a week and 300 miles I think the power is the same as stock and I like the sound better, although I don't hear it unless I'm near WOT. No CEL as of now. Filled up with fuel yesterday. Calculated 21.5mpg, almost all freeway (reminds me I need to take the time to drive the twisty way home more often!). I normally get 20 or just a bit less with the same kind of driving, but that's not enough data to indicate it's actually better. If it is, I'll need to drive 3000 miles to pay off the $150 in materials, haha. If my sock air filter fails and I ingest a pebble or two, I might need to redo the math!
