Well, this isnt really a complaint per say, but I figure someone looking for a answer might come to this section to find it.
For several months I noticed that at times there was some vibration in my steering wheel. not unbearable, but annoying. It never lasts more than 10 or so miles, and then gets better. I noticed it was worst in the morning after parking in my garage, but on the way home after work...very little vibration. Same road...what could be the problem...and why was it there sometimes and not other times. I tried to think of any variables that might be causing the problem. Then I noticed one night as I was cleaning my wheels that they were angled. I have to make a pretty sharp turn to get in my garage. So....that night i straightened the wheels out and the
next
morning....wow! the vibration wasnt there. maybe i was onto something. so....i parked at work with the wheels turned. sure enough, the vibration was there on my way home!
So...today I called the dealership to set up my oil change and a few other things I am having them look at (service bulletins etc.) I mentioned my finding to them and the fella in the service department said...yep!
Apparantly the get the same phenomenon with the
carrera
's and boxsters too. Itis related to a numberof variables including the weight distribution, camber, settling, and tire profiles.
Of course there are other things that can cause steering wheel vibration, but you may want to consider this remedy when troubleshooting your problem. Hope this helps somebody out there in caymanclub land.

Pinging this thread because I think I might be experiencing this...in a modified way.
1. Car is parked in garage with wheels straight.
2. I make sharp turn to back out of garage and steering is probably turned close to the maximum amount.
3.As I edge forward, I get some serious vibrations from the steering wheel.
4. After wheels are straight again, no further shimmying.
Is this the same problem or something I should take it in for?
Wow, I thought mine was an anamoly. I have to do some serious contortions to get in and out of or garage and I also experience nasty vibrations when the wheels are fully locked. Since everthing is otherwise fine after my garage exit and entry is done, I was waiting for service visit to check this out. Problem solved by RedRocket.
Thanks for this info! /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/beer2.gif
I have a similar problem when turning the steering wheel all the way left or right. But my "problem" seems to be related to power steering. There is a chattering or stuttering sound coming from the front of the car.
Look at the right front wheel in this picture - I've always thought it looked like it had a strange positive camber to it. Maybe the variable steering imparts a positive camber to the inside wheel when turned sharply, and the vibration is caused by a temporary flat spotting toward the edge of the tires.
Yes.....that is almost verbatim what the parts guy at the dealership told me...glad the info helped others as stumped as i was.
Just an FYI that when I experience this, it sounds like a really fast "duh-duh-duh-duh-duh"
I park straight and I get a small vibration at 60 which goes away. This only happens after the car has been sitting for a couple of days. No other vibrations or shuddering while turning etc. I think that my problem is flatspotting.
I've also experienced vibration at low speed with the wheel locked left or right. It's only when locked, back off the wheel just a tad and the vibration is gone. I've got 19' wheels with
PASM
so thought that clearance at full lock might be an issue. I never bothered to take a closer look, but I did wonder if the tires weren't rubbing the wheel arch liner.
