Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

If those don't work, and if it is PCM1 then it is probably 'beyond economic repair'.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I have a 996.2 C4S with sat nav. When I bought the car just over a year ago the sat nav worked but in the next few months it started showing the error message "CD upside down". It has worked intermittently but generally shows the error message. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks David

POST 2Original post

Is your car 2002 (PCM1) or 2003-on (PCM2.0)? The first thing I would do is make a copy of the map CD on a computer, using a good quality CD-R blank disk, writing it at the slowest speed possible (2X or 4X). If that doesn't work, you could try a lens cleaning CD in the PCM. If those don't work, and if it is PCM1 then it is probably 'beyond economic repair'. If it is PCM2.0 you can replace the CD mechanism. Min Chew (minny) did a great write-up, which you will find in the 996 Technical Articles section.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Richard, It is a PCM1, so will try copying the disk as suggested, as the first step. David
