Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I too need O2 sensors; can someone recommend a N NJ indy?

I just had really bad experience removing old / rusted bolts / nuts - when replacing front sway bar end links for our SUV / Acura MDX, one bolt took almost 2 hours (various methods, including a torch, two different impact wrenches, etc.).

Yeah, $2,400 was the quote to replace my O2 sensors.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

In hindsight, the pre cat fault indicating its running rich on one bank disappeared so probably faulty sensor but the after cat sensors still throwing codes so my cats are dead.
Yeah, $2,400 was the quote to replace my O2 sensors. Parts should cost $500 roughly so $1,800-$2,000 in labor?
I would surmise it takes'
10 mins to take off engine cover
10 mins to take off 2 wheels
20 mins to take wheel arch trim off
40 mins to loosen/remove 4 sensors
40 mins to run wires to plug
add 1 hour to plus up.
thats 3 hours, 1 tech
$1,900/3= $633/hr!!!
even if they double the price of parts as a "stocking fee" thats $1000 parts + $1,400 labor or $466/hr
Im paying to have it done because I don't want to do it myself after recovering from a minor back injury but holy hell.
Ouch...but not surprised especially if that quote is from a dealer. I wouldn't be surprised if they simply take "one unit" of oxygen sensor labor" (e.g., 1 hr) then multiply by 4 = 4 hrs @ $300 / hr = 1,200 + 1000 parts) which comes out close to $2400 with taxes. Don't forget that we are paying for their
Porsche
-badged worksuit,
Porsche
-badged garage door, and probably use special "
Porsche
-approved" electricity / air for their tools, and probably breath special air in their dealership / work bay
I guess that's why most of us try to avoid the stealership - I don't like our local
Porsche
stealership who even try to mark up the online price of $2 screw / bolt to like $10 at the counter.
If you are in Central / N NJ, I can refer you to an indy..if lower NJ, Don E here has a few I think.
Jeebus. My DIY cost for this was $360 in parts for all four. I don't know your skill level – I'm a reasonably experienced shade-tree wrench – but I didn't find the job very challenging. Gotta take off the top and front engine covers and rear wheels, and then route the cables following the old ones but I don't remember anything being rocket science.
$2400 is robbery. See if you can find an indy.
For reference this is what I bought from RockAuto. They are not in a
Porsche
box but they're direct-fit OEM parts. Note this is for

I had at least one slow sensor at ~80K. Car was running okay but it wan't allowing the emissions monitors to reset. Replaced all the sensors and that fixed it
Growing up, working at the Esso was considered low brow in my elitist high school. Now the lawnmower shop is getting $90.00 an hour labor rate. Repairing cars throughout my life as well as home construction skills (we built the 24 x 24 garage, wired it, poured the floor) has saved me thousands of dollars and been a source of hobbyist joy. If you know an indy shop that does exhaust work you trust they could handle a job like this as well. As Gubi said it's more labor in preparation than the job unless something goes sideways. I have a special sensor socket with wire accommodation, I find that makes the job much easier.
You must be a lucky guy as I expect at least 3 of my sensors to be "stuck"
I am not as experienced as Gubi and consider myself a "middle of the road" type of DIY person - can't do any tranny / engine out work at all. I just had really bad experience removing old / rusted bolts / nuts - when replacing front sway bar end links for our SUV / Acura MDX, one bolt took almost 2 hours (various methods, including a torch, two different impact wrenches, etc.). Ended up cutting it using an angle grinder while another bolt / nut, literally took 5 seconds with an impact wrench ;-)
You can "rent" O2 sockets from most auto parts stores. I put it in quotes because often it can be free - I usually go to Autozone as they do this for just a deposit (refunded when you return it) and they give you a good long time to return it as well...
That’s why they are called ’stealerships’. And if you choose to DIY the O2 sensors, buying a proper socket will probably cost under $25, so you cost savings will be 100 times the original quote.
So looking at the bill they charged $1,500 for 4 O2 sensors. Thats 2.5x the cost on the market for those sensors. In hindsight, the pre cat fault indicating its running rich on one bank disappeared so probably faulty sensor but the after cat sensors still throwing codes so my cats are dead. Going to tune them out soon and then down the road get the
Soul headers
to replace to match my catback soul exhaust. I've wasted more $$ on much less (see Las Vegas) so not too down on myself for not DYI this.
I know, that wasn't the problem. the debilitating back pain I'd get from contortionist movements breaking loose the nuts and running wire is my problem. Threw my back out playing disc golf a few months back and finally getting over it.
Wait...they charge $1,500 just for parts? Do these sensors have gold-plated, diamond-coating of
Porsche
logo on them instead of Bosch??
At least this saved your back which can be alot of expensive as you know......
