987 that was running perfectly fine when I parked it in the garage, it sat there for around a week and a half, my key plastic cover was broken so I ordered a new one and replaced the broken cover, everything else is the same, with the key I am able to open the trunk and frunk and lock/unlock the doors both with the key in and the remote.

I don't have a multimeter at home to test the battery so ill test that tomorrow, I was wondering if anything else can cause this that I can try fixing tonight until I test the battery to see if it completely dead.

Hi, I have a 2005 Boxster 987 that was running perfectly fine when I parked it in the garage, it sat there for around a week and a half, my key plastic cover was broken so I ordered a new one and replaced the broken cover, everything else is the same, with the key I am able to open the trunk and frunk and lock/unlock the doors both with the key in and the remote. when I put the key in the ignition the dash light up but when I turn the key there no beeping sound, no power to the radio, no dash error and the steering remain locked. I can also trigger and turn off the alarm system. I thought it was the battery, so I installed a battery charger and it been on it for 24 hours but it didn't change anything. I don't have a multimeter at home to test the battery so ill test that tomorrow, I was wondering if anything else can cause this that I can try fixing tonight until I test the battery to see if it completely dead. By replacing the ‘plastic key cover’, do you mean you removed the guts from the old fob and placed them in a new case? If so, did you replace the RFID ’pill’ which is mated to the vehicle? This ’chip’ if you will, is mated to your car and is necessary for the car to start. Hopefully you didn’t throw out the old case if that is what happened. The pic shows the ‘pill’ needed.

Did you find it??? Hopefully your neighbor didn't see you digging through your trash next to your Porsche Thanks to WTFChuck, I now know about the chip / pill, as I thought my 2005 was "old enough" not to have those chips / pills / boards inside the key (unlike more modern cars).
