Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi, My Sport and Sport Plus buttons suddenly stopped working a couple of weeks ago. They don’t light up when pressed nor does the engine performance change. I thought it might be a battery problem so I replaced the battery with a new H8, but still nothing. I did replace my PDK fluids a few months ago but I doubt this has caused anything. The car runs great in normal driving mode. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi - welcome to Planet-9, the Friendly Porsche Forum.. You question (and first post) actually belongs in a technical area, so I'm going to drag it over there. I think you'll need a Porsche -specific diagnostics tool (or a dealer visit or private shop with a PIWIS ) to diagnose this. Did the car come equipped from the factory with Sport/Sport-Plus? Typically if it did you'll have the useless stopwatch wart on the top of the dash. If it was retrofitted (which could be done) you'll likely not have the wart (you're missing nothing useful..). What year/engine is your 987? I'm assuming 2009 or newer since you mentioned replacing the PDK fluids and you nicely titled the thread with the model number. When you did the PDK fluids did you do the adaptation-reset? Where you tell the TCU to forget everything it knows about your driving habits? Once when I did that my Sport/Sport-Plus disappeared - but only for one key cycle. I stopped the car, restarted it and it was back. The reason I suggest a diagnostics tool is you want to check if the ECU/TCU see the action on the Sport/Sport-Plus buttons. A good diagnostics tool (not an OBD-II tool, that would be pretty useless) If they don't then wiring or the switch assembly itself should be looked at. It also would tell you if the ECU/TCU think Sport/Sport-Plus is installed. I guess it's possible some low battery condition might have caused the car to forget it has Sport/Sport-Plus, if that's the case you'll have to visit a dealer to get it reinstalled. It's married to your VIN# - and the enabling code for it comes from the Porsche computers (maybe in Atlanta, but more likely Germany). OK - moving this thread - hang on... and when you get a chance - please visit New Member Introductions - introduce yourself, and show us some photos of your car that we can ooohhhh and aaaahhhh over.

POST 3Original post

I’m having similar issues with my 987.1 sport button, I suppose I’ll need to get the code from Porsche for my Sport button. My battery was disconnected for a long, long time. Seems odd to need to do that if it was originally installed and no modules have been replaced.

POST 4Original post

While my sport/sport plus buttons work and illuminate in the center console, I don’t get the dash notification near the digital speedo. Is this a PIWIS coding issue?

POST 5Original post

I'll make that "probably.." based on my experience turning the sport/sport-plus/ Launch Control lights on on my steering wheel using my Foxwell NT530 . Local shop wanted $275 to turn the light out. I paid about $160 for the Foxwell and DIY in about 5 minutes. You might ask if anyone near you has a Foxwell or a PIWIS clone and could help you out.

POST 6Original post

Before you throw money at Porsche - if you can find someone with a Foxwell tool, or a PIWIS - it's worth checking to see if the Sport/Sport-plus button is turned on in the ECU (I think that's where it resides..) The system may know the code but just turned it off for some reason. A dealer is going to charge at least 1 hour labor (over $200 now in NJ) to hookup to it and troubleshoot it.
