Back story vehicle is a 2009
Porsche Cayman S
3.4l 9a1 engine 64k miles slightly modified. IPD plenum, 82mm throttle body, conservative tune, catback exhaust nothing crazy.... yet. Intricately maintained and serviced, A few months back headed out to a car show four hours away the car was lagging weirdly under acceleration then noticed after the studder there were james bond clouds of smoke being blown out the exhaust. car cleared one cloud then was acting fine no check engine lights or anything out of the ordinary (other than the smoke obviously). About 30 min later another cloud and followed by a flame ball but almost looked intentional... from friend followings perspective. After seeing this pulled over and noticed that the oil level was slightly low with an auto parts store 5 min away drove there topped off the oil (still no check engine light) decided to trailer the car home to be safe. Upon inspection after car sat a few weeks and dug through forums looking for answers with everything pointing to the
AOS
(smoke on startup although no vacuum from oil cap) found the
AOS
and crank case vent tube to be cracked ordered a new one replaced it did oil change with oil clean but a slight sludge only on drain plug clean filter and no coolant in oil. Assuming my problems were done for attempted to take the car out and had the same symptoms smoke on start up and under acceleration. So I continued to drive it assuming there was residual oil which i've been told is common. After 30-40 mins of highway driving it the smoke did not slow down and generated check engine lights with codes being P0171 (system too lean bank 1), P01094 (02 sensor circuit slow response in rich control rang bank 2 sensor 1), and B2aaa (unknown) I decided to also check the oil level to find that it had dropped to about half. Once again decided not to drive the car home and had it trailered home. Ordered a new
AOS
assuming the one I received was damaged after replacing that and
spark plugs
(all fouled with slight ash and oily but all six looked the same) decided to do a compression test and borescope to find nothing out of factory specs. Took car out again with exact same symptoms but only smoke at high speeds and higher rpm 4k+ immediately got the car back home and pulling into the garage noticed a slight puddle of oil under the car around the water pump. disassembled the plenum and intake manifold to inspect the filler neck with no leaks or deformities so decided to deep clean the engine to maybe better be able to find the leak. After leaving the car at idle for an hour and driving around the block a few times no new signs of leaks so assuming it was residual leaking out of the plenum or something I hadn't cleaned. After a conversation with a local independent shop I was advised to check the crankcase bleeding lids for each side the cylinder 1-3 O ring seemed to have a tiny bit of sludge around it, so I replaced that side and other side cant be replaced with engine in car. Still with no success finding the issue I rechecked the oil cap at idle and there is heavy vacuum at the oil cap but I haven't been able to get a tool to read what level it is at yet. I am Lost truly what to do
next
trying to find a local shop that will look at it but everywhere is booked out to
next
month or said they would do exactly what I have already done. Please help has anyone else had this issue? lots of oil pooling in the plenum and on both sides of
AOS
but could i have gotten two bad ones? both being OEM? part is seated correctly no leaks around it or any sign of pinched o rings or anything of the sort. seems to be crankcase pressure or vacuum issue???
Just read this. Did you ever find the cause and solution?
I rather doubt if he'll get back to you. He was last seen 4 days after this post. I imagine he was disappointed with the lack of response to his posting - but that doesn't surprise me at all. No one wants to read a wall of text, and the lack of paragraph breaks indicates a mind that works the same way..
If you have the same issue I'd suggest first reading
