Factor in a set of replacement rear tires - if they are in fact original, they're well past their use-by date (generally accepted as 8 years).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
After a years long search I believe I've found "the one." First time Porsche owner. The car is a 2005 1 owner 996 Targa. Manual. No track time. $35k asking price. Original brakes, front tires replaced at 20k, original rears. No known service issues per Porsche service department where car was sent since 2005. 1/129 manufactured at the end of this model run. Oddly it has the tear drop lights which I know aren't particularly favored but I don't mind them. Original MSRP $76k which included a few eyebrow raising upgrades like an $800 shifter.
Tried posting pics but the mobile app isn't cooperating.
Questions:
General comments/user experiences?
Additional things to look for during test drive outside of the normals?
Pricing?
Thanks!
Tristan
It sounds like a nice car. What it's worth is up to you - how badly do you want it and how much are you willing to pay for it? Personally, I wouldn't pay that much for a 996 targa, even though it sounds very nice. I'd probably look at a 996 turbo or even an early 997 in the same ballpark or just slightly higher. That being said, if this car really is "the one" for you, then go for it!
Good luck with your decision.
For example, there's a 2005 997 C2 with 29,478 miles listed on autotrader.com right now for $34,963. I know nothing about that car - I only use it as an example.
If you really want a targa, then the car you found might be the right one for you.
Factor in a set of replacement rear tires - if they are in fact original, they're well past their use-by date (generally accepted as 8 years).
Drive it, listen for rattles, creaks, etc. Are the hood/trunk shocks worn out? How does the brake pedal feel? Find a bumpy alley or parking lot, drive around with the windows down and listen for suspension noises - hissing shocks, squeaky bushings, clanking sway bar links, etc.
$35k may be a little high, but as was said earlier, the car is worth whatever you're willing to pay for it.
Post pics if you buy it!

Targa is harder to find - so if you really want one for the roof - I love mine - it might be worth a bit more to you than a coupe.
I don't think there is anyway to do 45k on rears ! 20k in front sounds about right - rear is typically half that.
Low miles is not necessarily a good thing in these cars - they need to be driven - get professional ppi done - including openining oil filter to look for any debris. Check windows drop when you pull door handles. At this age - even 45k - you should budget to replace waterpump, spark plugs , trans oil, and maybe a few other maintenance items - I'm not sure it is possible to easily do ims on the 2005 - but it should also have more robust design. Good luck ...
I have a 2002 Targa. Wasn't a fan of the old Targa's but since the 993 with the retractable glass at least the 911 profile stays intact. Let's face it the 996 Targa's are pretty much coupes with a $6k dollar sunroof. I do appreciate the rear hatch and the huge glass area also makes the interior a lot brighter and feels "roomier" as a result. BTW the 2015 Targa's command a $15k premium over the coupe.
Love my 04 Targa
C2's, C4's, cabs and Turbos are a dime a dozen, don't see a lot of Targas.
Like porsche951 said, the rear hatch is a big plus. makes it really easy to load thngs
