Hello!
So, driving with my son earlier this week to the grocery store. We parked and went in, everything was good to go. We're in there for roughly 20 minutes, come out to start, and warning light comes on saying oil level is low. I immediately shut it off and check the oil; it's a little above the halfway mark. I drive home slowly and gentle (only a couple of miles) so I can look at it. If I went too hard around a turn, smoke would come out of the
exhaust
, similar to what it does on a cold start. As soon as I straightened back out, it stopped immediately. I let it sit for a day, checked the oil level and check for leaks, and nothing. Oil level is showing normal. Haven't driven it since, although I'll be changing the oil tomorrow. Any ideas? Below is a pic showing full oil level. thank you!
What year and model is your car? Perhaps your level sensor is malfunctioning. Definitely collect an oil sample as it pours out for possible analysis. One school of thought is that we
don't
want the oil level to be at full bars as you've shown but ideally closer to 3/5 bars.
the fact that it smokes when you turn might be an indication that its overfull? Have you checked under your oil
cap
for milkshake type residue?
The photo definitely shows overfill, which could explain smoking on turns. Any level between the two arrows is in the normal range. More background would help. Was oil added recently? How long since last oil change? It is also possible there's some contaminant that is collecting in the oil pan. Coolant or condensation come to mind.
Remove the oil filter and empty the canister, start the engine and measure it again, if still on the top mark repeat the step until you are one bar below the maximum mark as you could damage your
AOS
(air/oil separator)

We're lacking some vital info here - year/model of your 987. There are differences in both how the oil level is read, and how the AOS works between 987.1 and 987.2 cars.
One thing of note as well as between a
987.1
,
987.2
and also our
Cayenne
, each bar was roughly 1/3 of a qt. Not highly precise, but helps prevent overfill.
