Have been offered a pre-enjoyed (used) PCM2 unit without GPS antenna for £750 + VAT.....actaully about the same price as they go for on fleabay.

Suggestion
It has the ability to change the back ground illumination to that of the rest of the digital read outs so looks factory fitted.

Mind you Scott, you'd be giving up the post codes facility if that was to replace your Tom Tom unit.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does this sound reasonable ?

Can't be much more to attach the GPS antenna can it? Good value if Dan says they cost £2k+ otherwise. Mind you Scott, you'd be giving up the post codes facility if that was to replace your Tom Tom unit.

Tom tom may be good, but looks rubbish and who wants to constantly have to stick and unstick it to your windscreen and carry it with you 24/7?

I thought PCM2 had postcode functionality or is that only PCM 2.1 ?
My TomTom is OK but after less than a year it refuses to take a charge from the mains now

Scott - PCM 2.1 I'm afraid.....I asked Jamie this specifically yesterday as his 997 has the latest version. Mine is PCM 2.0.

It's either that or spending 5 mins or so inputting the address details and then selecting from a pre-programmed list of destinations on a non-upgradeable (as far as I know) CD ROM. It's a tough call but with the Tom Tom, at least its small enough to put in the cubby hole between the seats.

Hi,
You would be better off going for a 2 din system like the Pioneer Avic D3. It has the ability to change the back ground illumination to that of the rest of the digital read outs so looks factory fitted. Has BT and Ipod capability. More functionality that the PCM2.0.
Defo the route I am taking. On Renn Tech some nice pics from a chap who has done this.
When I complete the process myself will post some pics here. Hopefully will do it in the next few months.

Mine doesn't go on the windscreen, it is down by the CD storage trays (which I don't use). It works great there, and no stand attached to the windscreen. I will get a picture and post it up.

Have now been offered one for £500, but I'm not the only interested party so would need to be quick.........Thoughts from the massive ?

I like the look of that Pioneer (which isn't disimilar to the PCM) but couldn't find pictures on Renn tech to see how fits in with the climate control etc ?

Does this Pioneer unit fit perfectly into the PCM slot in a 996 ?
That is......... by moving the climate control unit downwards to where the cubby hole resides ?
Looks good !
