Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

After visiting an OPC & them saying I could get a "nice C2" for my money...went and got a C4S with 111 check/RMS fixed & warranty for the same (<£40K) dosh

There are lots of things that the 111 point check does not cover and you may miss on your inspection.

This is what I plan to do - get a 111 point check on a private sale before buying - if it fails negotiate the price if trivial or walk away.

OK, I'm a little confused on the value of PPI and OPC check - surely if I've had the OPC check and paid for the warranty then I'm "pretty much covered"?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Have had a peek at prices it seems that the premium for buying from an official porsche centre is er, quite large! More to the point, there seems little under 40k that's available.
I've seen people mention that you can get the 111point check and then OPC warranty - is this then exactly the same bulletproof manufacturer warranty that you would get if you bought from the OPC in the first place?
Just curious as it seems that would get the piece of mind that a porsche warranty provides along with buying a newer car than i could get otherwise...

That's the way I see it... its a win win!
For added security you may also wish to commission a proper independent inspection as I believe the OPC check is not the last word in detail.

Porsche charge c.£300 to do the 111pt check, or £65 if its done same time as a service. You can then get the full blown warranty, assuming it passes.

I purschased from an indie and then got the OPC warranty. So it works fine. If I was doing it privately though, I would get the 111 point check done as part of the purchase.

Your only risk is if it fails the 111 point check and needs remedial work to get it to pass. However you are still likely to be quids in if say you got a PPI done. If that was clear and you bought the car take it for the 111 and got the warranty.

But if it fails - you don't buy it. If I was buying privately, 3-6 years old, would always go this route.
Otherwise as Sean says, you could be in for a bill of £1-4K just to get a warranty put on it.

Martyn - as you are in Wiltshire - it is worth checking out

. Mark is a really nice guy and all his cars come with a warranty.
Don't know what stock he has at the moment though.

Yep - that's what I did (more or less). After visiting an OPC & them saying I could get a "nice C2" for my money...went and got a C4S with 111 check/RMS fixed & warranty for the same (<£40K) dosh
I hope you're not planning to clog MY roads in Wiltshire up though

Do not discount also having a PPI. There are lots of things that the 111 point check does not cover and you may miss on your inspection. The 111 point check will not look for resprayed body panels etc. and whilst the tech who did it may be able to give you an opinion on things that are not on the check he will be a mechanic not a body work specialist. A good PPI combines the mechanical, electrical and bodywork all in one.

I have access to a paint thickness meter as well as knowing what to look for in this respect. The OPC check whilst not infallible will certainly cover the rest and it will need doing as a matter of course on a non-warrantied car should I buy one.

Paint gauge means nothing
Every car in a main dealers show room has had the front end repainted for stone chips, modern water based paints chip so easily
You need to get a car on a ramp to find the things you need to look for

I went into Porsche Guildford to look at an RS, it was up for £68k and they offered me £45k for my Comfort GT3.
I found a private sale RS, have just managed to sell (I think) m comfort and the difference between purchase and sale was £13k.
I tad better than the OPC route plus my RS had 16000 miles less than the OPC one!
My RS had a month left of its warranty, Simon at Hatfield renewed it for me over the phone the day before it expired without doing the 111 point check.

Of course, I guess that does depend on how comprehensive the warranty is! I know the warranty on my 5-series was excellent no questions asked, however the Lotus main dealer warranty on my Elise was far less so (had to argue like bloody mad to get them cover HGF caused by a radiator failure).
At 800 quid, I would assume its pretty much everything except brakes/clutch/tyres that are worn out, or am I assuming too much?
