Hi All,
I'm contemplating purchasing a 2020
911
Carrera
4S; however, it would need to be my all year driving car and I live in the New England area. Have others successfully relied on a C4S in New England winter weather with appropriate
tires
? The sales folks all say "not a problem" but I'm looking to hear from owners that have tried it. Thanks in advance!

Haven’t driven a C4, but I drove a RWD
Cayman S
through five Ottawa winters with no problem. The only issue is clearance, but that becomes an issue for any car if the snow gets deep. An AWD
911
will be a breeze. Fun too.
I have a
911
C2S and a
Cayenne
. I would be concerned, as the other posted mentioned, about the ground clearance with more than a little snow or the roads not plowed. You might find yourself becoming an unintended snowplow for your neighbors!
On packed snow and winter
tires
(slopes of Sugarbush, 2014)...
Extremely helpful all! Thank you very much!!
Standing between a
911
C4S and
Panamera 4S
yesterday @ a dealership, I was surprised how little difference in ground clearance there was between the two. Was making me feel optimistic about a
911
C4S in the snow (as your photos support)!
Previously lived in New England for many years and the snowplows do a good job of clearing the primary roads immediately and then secondary roads. Owned FWD sedans and coupes (only a couple inches more of clearance) with snow
tires
and able to get around as needed in the winters just fine. Use good judgement and beware of other drivers!
Like others stated, with good winter
tires
traction, on plowed or snow packed roads will be fine. It's clearance that's the issue and depends totally on how side streets, parking lots and all the various "ancillary" areas are cleared. Ripping a splitter off is no fun (speaking from direct experience).
I think some folks underestimate this aspect of certain cars on the snow. Two cars may have equal "clearance" as measured by a ruler, but where one can gracefully flex and surf over the mounds of snow, another will dig in and get torn apart.
How about if you bought a new
Macan S
, and with the savings over a new C4S, buy a used
911
4S! Use the
Macan
in the snow and the
911
with good weather..... just a thought!
Anyway, let us all know what you decide. Cheers!
