Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
I just bought new 4 new caliper bolts from D911 for my 98 C2 and the new ones are about 5mm shorter than the ones that came out which I think are most likely the original ones.
Leading evidence: 'original ones' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'original ones' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace with a longer one' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If the shorter one only extends three or four threads then it needs replacing with a longer one!
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm part way through fitting new rear disks, pads etc and I've taken one side off and found that the caliper bolts are different lengths and the sell 72mm and 77mm.
Does anyone know whether they should they be different and, if so, which is top and which bottom?
Have you looked at the Porsche parts diagrams as it often has the size of bolts on there?
Or check the depth of each of the mounting holes in the caliper to see if one is longer than the other ( highly unlikely) if they are different it would suggest the longer one goes in the longer hole! If they are the same depth as you would expect, put each bolt in the caliper and measure how far they protude. Next measure the depth of the threaded holes in the hub, because the hub is aluminium the thread is the full depth of the hole. Make sure each bolt reaches if not the full depth then very close to the full depth of the thread in the hub. I hope you'll find that the shorter one is like this and the excess on the longer one just protrudes out the other end of the threaded hole in the hub!! If the shorter one only extends three or four threads then it needs replacing with a longer one!

Thanks Mac and others, since I posted I have found that they should be 72mm but mine does currently have one of each, I'll measure the thread depth as suggested but I suspect that both fit!?!?
The bolts go through the hub carrier so the longer bolts protrude but, apart from corrosion, this isn't an issue so either length would be ok.
I really don't see why Porsche say change the bolts, they bolt into aluminium so there is no way they could be stretched. However mine are clearly a mix and probably 21 years old so I'll replace them this time.
