The hood doesn't have the options sticker, which leads me to believe it was replaced.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Some questions have been raised as to the steering wheel. Does anyone know if this is the proper steering wheel for this car?
It's to be original paint, no accidents, why would steering wheel be incorrect? I'm a 993 guy livin in the 90's IDK bout which 996's had leather versus vinyl steering wheels....idk even how to tell.
any ideas/help?
thanks
joe
Great looking car!
I wonder, did the carfax come back clean? The hood doesn't have the options sticker, which leads me to believe it was replaced. Might also explain the new steering wheel.
The leather steering wheel airbag cover has visible stitching. I had it on my C4S, but it was an optional leather piece (quite expensive too). I don't know if it was standard or if it was optional on the turbo S.
The missing hood sticker doesn't always indicate a new hood. My 997 turbo is missing the sticker and I'm quite certain that the hood hasn't been replaced. I've heard of other instances of a missing sticker without an accident.
I believe Porsche stopped the under hood options stickers mid 996 model range. Conceivable that this did not come with one. Researching it though. Thanks!!!
I think you are right for the 997. It seems like some of them have the sticker on the underside of the hood and some don't. I haven't ever heard this about the 996, but maybe the 2005 transition year means that some of the 996 cars didn't get it either.
My 2003 C4S and other 2004's I looked at had the sticker. You can also visually inspect the bolts attaching the front fenders on either side of the hood compartment. This might give an indication of whether it was replaced or not. This all depends on how the shop painted the car too. Don't want to hear the airbags deployed....
Good luck, sweet ride though, even if the hood was damaged. The previous owner could've replaced it because of minor road damage too.
