Just about to go-ahead and replace front bushes - do I need to worry about the tuning fork & alignment - I have just had a Geo set up so don't want to mess with anything?

Hopefully that buys me a couple of weeks before replacing with Powerflex....

I have read, very common on the 996 GT3 and after speaking to Bilstein directly, this is a common issue after time, especially when running lowered, stiffer suspension.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all
One of my lower control arm bushes has started to squeak (slightly) before I find the time to push it out and re-grease (new powerflex) is there anything I can do to reduce the squeak? I have seen WD40 sell a silicone, or a lithium one... I thought loading it up might help?
Thanks
Silicone spray might be better than lithium for this, i think. But honestly, I'm just guessing based on what I've read online. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in?
Bushes are c. 4-5 years I think.... they are in good condition. Powerflex Black series.
It could be the tie rod arm - but I just don't have the time in the next 8 weeks to check what/if needs replacing.
Is it unusual to need to re-grease Poly bushes? I have just installed new top mounts and a geo-set up.....
Sounds like it is actually the front roll bar bushes..... I sprayed some WD40 on them and its almost removed all of the noise.. odd as the bushes look in good shape.
I'll get some silicone PTFE spray and soak them tomorrow. Hopefully that buys me a couple of weeks before replacing with Powerflex....
Just about to go-ahead and replace front bushes - do I need to worry about the tuning fork & alignment - I have just had a Geo set up so don't want to mess with anything?
I assume that leaving the bolt in and just loosening it shouldn't affect things?
Thanks
Question - when pushing on the front wings, I'm getting a slight squeeking noise on both sides - what is the likely culprit? Happens if wheels straight or turned. Any advice really appreciated before I replace everything
P.S I have just installed new ARB bushes (purple poly)
Thanks as always!
Spray each bushing with WD40 until there are no more creaks, and the bushing where the creaking stopped is the culprit. My guess, since we're talking about the front, is the coffin arm.
A friend and I spent a while on it today, it appears to be coming from the top mount 'area'
- new Meyle top mounts
- New Geo Set-up (was running a very harsh camber) although worth noting the creak was there before
- Springs seated correctly
- Bushes all torqued and tight
Sprayed top mount with lube, didn't help, removed it from load, suspension making no noise and as should
Noise only present under load, bouncing the car... drop links are looks strong and good condition
Any other thoughts before I strip the suspension?
Thanks
The top mounts can separate over time, but if yours are new and correctly torqued it seems strange, while not impossible. I had a pair of notoriously high quality Lemförder R32 bushes fail in my previous Polo 6R in less than 5000km.
Did you torque everything down with the car sitting on its wheels, or at least with the hub lifted to the correct ride height with the wheel off? If not, that can kill bushes very quickly. The top mounts, however, can be torqued down in any position.
So after some more inspection today, appears it is the Bilstein B6 front shocks that are the cuprit. I pushed some lube down them last night (one side only) and totally removed the noise by this morning.
I have read, very common on the 996 GT3 and after speaking to Bilstein directly, this is a common issue after time, especially when running lowered, stiffer suspension. It is the bearing inside that dries out over time and causes the noise. A simple fix (service) directly with Bilstein will solve the issue..... now the question is - shall I take the opportunity to upgrade to adjustable??
Has anyone else swapped out Bilstein b6?
Thanks
