It's an excellent tourer partly due to a decent boot with a fitted Rimowa XL case and garment bags behind the seats.

I just ordered a delivery miles 918 from Specialist Cars in Yorkshire after much hunting. I paid over the odds but that's the market now I guess. I'm in Australia but will use the car when I'm in Europe and keep it in storage in the UK in between times. It might take a month before I'm over to get it but I'll certainly share the experiences here once I have it. I already have an Alpine tour planned with some Aussie friends around the Frankfurt show in September.
The car has the factory protective film - does anyone know how much of the car is covered? I usually cover pretty much the whole car and IIRC, the Porsche kit is a bit skimpy. I can't wait to point the car south on the motorway but I don't want to pick up stone chips before I can book a full wrap.
I have a lovely garage it would be absolutely fine to store it in while you are being uncivilised
Obviously it will need the odd run to keep it in fine fettle

Its only the front bit of the sill, you will need a full frontal at least, its not expensive I have this, inner sills rear arch and A post, I will email you later with the all the info
I saw the car at a recent PCGB visit – rather impressive. It was next to a 356 Speedster, quite a contrast. It’s the Malton Big Breakfast on Sunday so your car will have many more admirers. If you want to call in when you collect it I am pretty close!
Enjoy

I hate you - my dream car in my favourite colour!
Really looking forward to your pictures and reviews!
I was shown a black one being fully wrapped at OPC Cardiff a few weeks ago. It took the 3 guys working on it almost 3 days to complete.
Purely from a personal perspective, I'd never have a car wrapped having had significant problems removing the stuff from a previous car. As the guys wrapping the 918 conceded, damage is often unavoidable.

All depends on the film, with the water based glue ones its impossible to damage..

don't feel that you have paid over the odds, no cars around...Will PM you later contact details for Film, Insurance , and tech team...

I'm not going to go for the full film protection I don't think, but will cover carbon bits as you can't repaint them. Factory also suggested film over the sills, so they don't get damaged over time.

That's right - it's an incoming silver car. The white car is sold.
So he's had a third one in and out in a month, nice going.
I saw the White Wiessach car yesterday, stunning, and roped off to prevent any dings today!
I suspect a local buyer, John didn't say who, but several trade ins were taken, very nice ones indeed, as part of the deal.
I'm very impressed with the service I'm getting from John Hawkins at Malton. I don't think I've had a dealer reply to emails on an Easter Sunday before! I've got a mate who helped me on the "918 hunt" just get clearance at home to come from Australia to help me take delivery. We'll fly to Manchester in 3 weeks time, grab a 911 rental, take delivery of the 918 in Malton and take a few days to convoy back through England and Wales ending in Bucks where the car will be stored. Once I'm home, I'll plan some decent Euro sorties for later in the year. I can hardly wait!

Is this your car - it's stunning ! Love it in this colour - just pure and simple
OP you should take a run up around Blakey Ridge if you've got time when you pick the car up. Evo shoot up there from time to time and it's made for a decent hooning. John will be sure to know the routes to take from Malton.

Thanks ellroy - we most certainly will. We plan to spend a solid day hunting out some decent Yorkshire roads before heading to Wales. Hopefully, we'll meet some PH'ers along the way.

Fair question. I wasn't in the market when the car was launched. I don't feel taken advantage of - it's my own silly fault for not moving sooner. I justify the squandering of cash by reminding myself it is still cheaper than a P1.

Helmsley TT !
Or Helmsley back road to York
Is that the B1363 or the B1257?
I'm a big fan of the Stamford Bridge to Whitby run via Malton. Bumpy in places but good, well sighted sweeping curves! ;-)
Helmsley TT is the B1257. 3 miles from my house. Great road but do not do it at weekends when it is full of bikes and police cars. Early morning or late afternoon is not so bad, but weekdays are better. Then up through Kildale to Blakey ridge (Lion inn does goodish food) and play between there and Hutton Le hole. Should then consider back across the A1 to Richmond and South through the dales.
Beautiful car. I hope you have a great time.
Might want to get it detailed before it is wrapped. I spoke to Supercar Detailing who just had a blue one in and he was under the impression that all panels are painted individually and described it shocking for what these things cost.
Congrats on the purchase!

I think you both mean disdain, but crack on
basically these type of places see plp with money and say we can charge what we like and they will pay . at least a Porsche dealer has to invest large somes of money in their business , which justifies profits they make.

Business wants to make money, people are willing to pay, I don't see the issue. Why do you have such an objection, is it jealousy?
SCOM is a broker. They din't pay list for the car. So they make as big a margin as they can while still providing good customer service. Isn't this what all of us who work in the free market try to do?
I run this analogy against what I hear politicians say during the election campaign, especially in the debates, and I wonder what planet most of them live on.
We are not brokers we bought them (all three ) We put our money where our mouth was ! Why dont you do that Mr puller and STFU and let the new owner enjoy his car !!!

Your car looked great too - I love that colour. It was an impressive sight to see the convoy with headlights flashing. We've dropped the car to its storage near Heathrow after driving the length of Wales today and now we are boarding our flight to Aus. Back in June though.
Edit: I see you flashing by in this video. I didn't get out of Auto mode.

Snap! I was there last night, they were parking up as I arrived at 9.50pm, lovely car and a nice chap to boot.
We've been here for a week (Goodwood etc) and are heading home tomorrow. A PHer suggested Audleys for its discreet location for Goodwood and it's been ideal. I've needed a couple of service items done so proximity to Reading has been a bonus. Less than 2 weeks of total driving time since delivery and better than 2,000miles already. It's a very useable car.

Glad you liked the hotel(I recommended it), I stayed the first night of my honeymoon there (despite living ten mins away) and it seemed a suitable place for such a car - and you managed to park next to the front door as well..
Despite being close to the motorway and Basingstoke, it seems to be in the middle of nowhere and obviously close to reading as well. Hope you enjoyed Goodwood as well
mhh said:
Thanks SB. Yes, Goodwood was fantastic.
Awesome car OP, how are you getting on with it?
Hate to be pedantic but your profile states you own a Mercedes 650S Spider, I think that's a typo
It's now more than 2 years since I took delivery so I thought I'd update this thread. The car is now showing 16,000 miles - Reading tell me it's the highest mileage car they look after. It's been very reliable - only a few minor campaign items and nothing reported by me. I've mainly used the car for touring on the continent plus some alpine driving as well as trips to North Wales and Scotland. It's an excellent tourer partly due to a decent boot with a fitted Rimowa XL case and garment bags behind the seats. It's pretty firm and noisy (in a good way) compared to say a Turbo but it brings sense of occasion to every drive. Truthfully, I'm not sure what I could replace it with that would do the job as well.

OPC Reading are the last people I would let loose on any car but unfortunately they are the only ones that can service the 918. I would suggest you check the car very carefully for damage before/after they look at it.
Reading looked after my 918 for 7000 miles/2 years, also also have worked on my R and 924CGT (along with Porsche Edinburgh).
In my experience they have been very good, and more than helpful. (Same can be said for Edinburgh).
mhh - there is not a comparable road car!

So glad that you have driven the car the way that it was built for. Thanks again for holding the tickets for Goodwood for me and my friend.
Now that the PCA have announced the dates for Rennsport Reunion. Will you be attending. My friends in LA have booked loads of rooms and villas in Carmel and Monterey.
It's going to be an amazing event. Can't wait.
Thread revival time.
I haven't seen my 918 for 2 years due to Covid travel bans in Australia. At last our leaders have announced we can go abroad again. I've been reduced to keeping an eye on the car via the Porsche Connect app while the excellent folk at my storage move it on its tyres occasionally. I'd like to sneak in a visit before Christmas (doubtful) and a road trip to Cap Ferrat in March if all goes well.

10 years on and I've still got the car. Other brands have caught up on performance but the 918 is still my favourite car. The last decent drive was last year when touring with others from Munich to Monaco and back via northern Italy. Now showing 26,000 miles but still feels new every time I get back in it. 10 years is a fair stint but I can't think of a replacement with the breadth of capabilities.

They really are incredible up around Snowdonia, I enjoyed them in my diesel Fiesta, I can only imagine how fun they are in your steed!
First time i've seen this thread and wow, cracking you've kept it for 10 years and enjoy it properly!
I scarcely have the means to run my 911 but i've been lucky enough to drive a 918 Spyder on a few occasions and its safe to say those memories will be forever scorched in my mind! I found the width of them, in combination of being LHD, a small challenge for the first 10 minutes but after that i was completely smitten. I found none of the reviews really mention the noise they make as a plus point, so it was a surprise to me just how good it sounded, the rest i found 'typically Porsche', steering feel/ turn in, solid and reliable and just giving you the confidence to enjoy it. What a car.
I wish you many more happy miles in it!
Thanks for the kind words all.
I’m home in Australia now but I’ll be back for Goodwood FoS so I’ll give it another run then.
