Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

For the longest time I've always checked the lights prior to an MOT but in this age of 'idiot' warning lights I forgot to.

the problem with suspension, and i speak from experience, if you start looking closer, you will find all sorts of things that need changing due to age, if it rides ok then it's fine

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just took my C4S for its first MOT under my ownership, 3.5k new miles since the previous test. It failed, but only on a fog light! It turned out to be a bulb. For the longest time I've always checked the lights prior to an MOT but in this age of 'idiot' warning lights I forgot to. I was able to fix it and get the retest the same day, and a pass! There was an advisory on the rear drag link ball joints, but apart from that a clean bill of health. The car has done 146,000 miles over 21 years. The examiner was complimentary about the general condition underneath, and also the sound of the PSE in open mode. An infant trying to sleep in a car seat within another vehicle under test did not agree, however.

POST 2Original post

not bad for 146k the problem with suspension, and i speak from experience, if you start looking closer, you will find all sorts of things that need changing due to age, if it rides ok then it's fine

POST 3Original post

Some MOT enterprises will fail on a bulb and charge for a retest. My local garage will quite happily replace bulbs etc during the MOT and the 'Pass' the car with no retest fee. A couple of years ago I took my C4S in for it's MOT and they found that one of the headlights was pointing very high (Litronic) at which point I had three machanics around the car, we removed the headlight took it to bits and found that one of the headlight leveling arms had come adrift. The ball joint was popped back into place, headlight installed and it then was good to 'Pass'. This took around thirty minutes. They only charged me for the MOT at £54 ish from what I recall. I had £30 cash in my wallet that passed over for beer money.
