Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi fellow members, I've just recently bought a Porsche and was wondering what this meant on the Carfax history report: Vehicle: 2004 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA2/CARRERA 4S Is there a difference between the Carrera 2 and Carrera 4S? Or is it the same vehicle model? Please advise. I'm so confused. :thanks:

POST 2Original post

Big difference. The C2 is RWD only and the C4S is AWD. Which one did you buy? Carfax isn't that reliable anyway.

POST 3Original post

They cannot be the same vehicle. Carrera 2 is standard non S engine, standard trim w/ rear wheel drive only. Carrera 4S is awd and S engine and trim. There is a significant difference in price between these models as well. Agree that Carfax is far from 100% reliable. The VIN can be used to obtain all the data on your car including options.

POST 4Original post

Thanks for the replies. This is how my car looks: Since it's been customized, I can't really tell. Maybe you guys might have a clue! EDIT: I believe it's a RWD. So I'm guessing it's a C2? Haha. More info: 3.6L Inj 6 Cyl 5A RWD

POST 5Original post

Your front bumper looks like it is from a 996 C4S or 996 Turbo they were the same on 996's. So is your rear. The air intake below your hood is from a GT3 and it looks like the spoiler is as well. The air dam and trim looks like it is probably the 996 GT3 aero kit or possibly Tech art. If you have a picture with your trunk open it would be easy to tell if it is a 4 AWD or 2 RWD. If it is AWD it is a 996 C4S Since the 996's 4's only came in S series. If it is RWD then it has been tricked out with C4S and/or Turbo body parts. The 996 C4S was some times referred to as the savers Turbo since the 996 C4S and the 996 Turbo were indistinguishable except for the air scoops behind the doors. The best way to tell is have a local Porsche dealer run your VIN. They will be able to tell you exactly what it is and exactly what options it had when it left the factory. Enjoy it whatever is under the rear lid

POST 6Original post

Congrats on the car. I can run the vin and email you the options list if you would like. The good news is that your C2 hp stock is the same as the 4S. The S/4S models got different engines and more hp compared to the non S in the next generation.

POST 7Original post

That sounds just perfect! Can I message/email you my VIN#? So, my C2 has the same horsepower as a C4S stock? WOW. So that's pretty much 385 horses am I right?!
