Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I recently bought a 1988 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet. I wonder if other owners of this model might advise me on the following: 1) Cabrio top: I understand this is a "mohair" fabric top (the car currently has a replacement top fitted, but I am assuming the material is similar to the original top). The owner's manual does not say anything about waterproofing this top. The first time it rained, I noticed that the top did not "bead", it just got saturated. I applied some Porsche cabrio top protectant, and it seemed to bead a bit more, but still seems to need another application or two. Is there any reason I would NOT want to use cabrio top protectant on this top? 2) Exhaust: my local independent service technician recommended that I replace the OE exhaust with a Fabspeed unit, take out the cat, and also install a new chip which improves performance. I have heard good things generally about Fabspeed products, but am wondering if anyone on this forum has done this recently. I am leaning toward the "dual outlet" installation, which supposedly sounds a bit better than the single outlet installation. I am always wary of modifying Porsche's software, but this chip install is evidently a "plug and play" (not a reprogram or reflash) and I can always put in the original chip (as well as reinstall the cat should the car not pass emissions, but it only has one more year to go here in Georgia for emissions inspections). Thanks for any feedback!
