Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Naturally I don't want to be tail out, but the 285/35/18 Michelins are installed Monday.

Suggestion
The Capital district of Australia ACT has tough local safety laws, so the Bridgestone Shop (irony, but one of the few places capable of a lowered Porsche alignment in town) was very keen to inspect the car for clearence (stock rear twists) and legality.
Leading evidence: 'Install monday' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I am running OEM 18" 5 spoke rears that currently take this size.

I’m running 295 but on gt3 rims and I have zero rub on my narrow body it’s all about back spacing and camber
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

On the rear after a suspension refresh, I wanted to "test" the car, it went "tail out" in the wet on my used car dealer - "dealer supplied" 265/35/18 "Achilles" tyres with a thread depth that just passed road worthy.

After putting PS 4S on my 997 turbo, I found them to be great tires and want to use the PS 4S if possible on the targa, but not if the size will create issues.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was scheduled to buy these (and fronts) for my 2003 targa, but they have been discontinued. I am running OEM 18" 5 spoke rears that currently take this size. Has anyone put 295 Pilot Sport 4S on their 996? I really, really don't want to create any rubbing issues or have the tires stick out too far. After putting PS 4S on my 997 turbo, I found them to be great tires and want to use the PS 4S if possible on the targa, but not if the size will create issues.
I've run 295/30R18 tyres on my MY02 C2 (also on the OEM 5 spoke rims without any spacers) for the past 3 years without trouble.
I'm not sure why you would want to run 35 aspect ratio tyres, the tyre diameter of a 285/35R18 tyre is 4.54% taller than the stock diameter (285/30R18). 295/30R18 diameter is less than one percent larger than stock. A 4.54% taller tyre will throw your speedo reading out.
2003 targa is only available in C2. The "30" aspect ratio is the stock ratio for the 18" rear tire as referenced in the original post subject line. I spoke with my dealer and the 295 is about 0.2" taller and about 0.4" wider. It is the added width that has me ask whether others have had issues with
295/30R18. Thanks for your comment Peter.
This, is the better Michelin, the extra sidewall helps not hinders (IMHO), compared with GPS the optimistic speedometer becomes slightly more accurate.
Q to those who run 285/35R18:
Do you experience loss of engine braking when coastng due to the TC (or PSM if fitted) adding a little throttle as the bigger rear tyres rotation slower than the fronts thus triggering the TC?
Had that when I had 265/40R18 instead of the correct 265/35R18 on my 99 c2.
Something to look out for.
Coincidentally, I have near new advised stock size Michelin Pilots 4S on the front. On the rear after a suspension refresh, I wanted to "test" the car, it went "tail out" in the wet on my used car dealer - "dealer supplied" 265/35/18 "Achilles" tyres with a thread depth that just passed road worthy. Off course I think it's my ex-BMW car club (swing axle IRS E30) opposite lock skills that prevented disaster, or was it the 3/98 traction control? The Capital district of Australia ACT has tough local safety laws, so the Bridgestone Shop (irony, but one of the few places capable of a lowered Porsche alignment in town) was very keen to inspect the car for clearence (stock rear twists) and legality. Since he would be liable. The diameter change is legal here, another thought of his is that the sold diameter of the actual real Michelin 4S tyre is actually only 3% higher at 285/35/18 than the maths says over 265/35/18 in the discount Achilles tire. But yes a nice sale for him. Naturally I don't want to be tail out, but the 285/35/18 Michelins are installed Monday. I expect less surprises than more. Will openly update/disclose if there are issues re fitment, speedometer, ancient stability control. .
Why drive if you don't enjoy testing your suspension and tyres?
Wet in Canberra ACT., Australia 285/35/18 Michelin Pilots and tyre shop level alignment. Naturally they went for a stock number alignment. Waiting for Feals 441+ before Rally shop alignment - corner balance, mild neg camber etc. The GPS speed vs Indicated speedometer remains optimistic - higher than GPS. Very slippery today - two accidents in local news. Can't detect TC triggering due to diameter increase. On cornering or coasting. Tyre shop said these were huge. No clearence issues on 3/98 996.1. . Being the Capital we have roads of glass, plus teeth rattling speed humps (where I think the big side wall is good) . Car was a pleasure as ever.
So far no downside to big Michelin in these conditions. Clearly benefits are from the fresh alignment, new premium rear rubber over worn discount tyres. Happy to disclose if I'm wrong, and issues emerge. Rear tyres should have a short life, if tested correctly.
