Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Could anyone tell me what the difference (if there is any?) between a Tiptronic and Tiptronic S is on a 98 996 C2? Cheers Greg

POST 2Original post

On the 993 there were two versions of Tiptronic - either with or without steering wheel control buttons. The 'S' designated the version with the buttons. On both of the 993 Tip versions you could also change gear on the stick. All 996 Tiptronics are effectively 'S' versions, as they all have steering wheel control. Sadly, they didn't carry forward the stick shift to the 996.
