This is not a probability of success.

I will also check the carpet area for dampness as I tend to clean my car quite often - perhaps there the drains are clogged or something and its upset the control module - albeit if it has, I would imagine other areas would be affected by a broken module ?

If I pull fuse B5, can I still drive the car in the meantime (during the day ofc) whilst I schedule in time to remove the center console and inspect the reverse switch control unit ?

Managed to sort the reverse lights being on all the time and flashing number 4 on the dash by replacing the multifunction switch on the gearbox.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, my reverse lights are lit regardless of what gear is being used, stationery or driving. Ive plugged in diagnostics and no error codes. The car drives fine. Gear select is fine. The reverse lights go out only if I remove fuse B5. If I pull fuse B5, can I still drive the car in the meantime (during the day ofc) whilst I schedule in time to remove the center console and inspect the reverse switch control unit ?

POST 2Original post

suspect unless it's a wiring issue rear control module, under the seats. controls all of the rear lights and spoiler.

POST 3Original post

Reverse light switch on gearbox? If it fails the light usually won’t come on but it may be possible that it can get stuck in the ON position.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, thanks. I will check out the control module under the seats. I will also check the carpet area for dampness as I tend to clean my car quite often - perhaps there the drains are clogged or something and its upset the control module - albeit if it has, I would imagine other areas would be affected by a broken module ?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Managed to sort the reverse lights being on all the time and flashing number 4 on the dash by replacing the multifunction switch on the gearbox. Cost about £400 parts (from autodoc) + labour (indy). The old multifunction switch had split open and water had got inside. The contacts looked fine though. Just to mention - my 98 996 Tip C2 does not have a reverse light switch near the shift lever even though Porsche seem to think it does... lol
