my old Car get started so rough few weeks ago when engine is hot >80degreeCelsius, below 1800-2000rpm, - no rough when cold start, all rpm run very smooth - when engine starts rough at low rpm/idle, the CEL come on, but will disappear when throttle down above 2000rpm - car car super smooth when mid to hight speed, but will easier rough speed drop down/idle near traffic light Diagnostic scan - misfire #5 only, I keep plug in the scan tools and keep monitoring it when driving, the real time data of misfire frequency only happen when speed roughly below 2000rpm - valve stroke piloting jobs/diagnostic has been carried, no improvement - cleaning injectors, swap the injectors etc, no improvement misfire sticks on #5 only - new spark plugs swaps and event replaced all of 6, still no improvement, misfire sticks on #5 only - ignition coil swap, no improvement - few time engine flush and change oil, no improvement - 2 cam / 2 lifter actuators has been cleaned and tested with good functioning -- no improvement, misfire sticks on #5 only - all smoke tested and fixed all leakage -- still no improvement, misfire sticks on #5 only 😑😑😑😑 - checked the exhaust manifold has serious carbon built up on #5 only, others were so clean. - cylinder pressure test - passed, 6 cylinders quite even. ==> I suspect that valve lifter on #5, either the intake or exhaust are intermittence failure. Particular the intake lifter has low / high cam profile by adjusting a pin which driven by oil pressure. so I suspects the pin cannot function normally. ==> now I teardown the engine, camshafts, all lifters but not sure how to confirm which lifter goes wrong, particular the intake lifters.. My questions are - any other possibility which I may above symptoms - any way to test the variable intake valve lifter ? the high or low cam actuation.
