Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use h3' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace halogens' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I'll confirm when/if I get the car as I'm looking to replace the halogens with LED's at some point.

And one uses the litronic bulb for both using a shutter system.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My apologies if this has been covered previously.
Car is 2004 996 C4S without Litronic. What are the type of bulbs used in the headlight for main and dipped beams? I've seen both H7 and H8/H9 referred to. Can someone confirm or just point me in the right direction to any previous thread.
I don't have the car in my possession yet so I can't remove a headlight to check.
TIA Mark
I don't think thats right unless Porsche made multiple variations of the non litronic mk2 headlights. I have a non litronic 996 C4S my dipped beam is H7 and my high beam is H9.
I think it's mk1 cars (boxster style headlights) that have H7 for both.
If you do get one I for the dipped beam I can't reccomend highly enough Philips Uniton LED's As bright if not brighter than my 986's factory litronics and maintains the beam pattern so no blinding oncoming traffic.
Is there a difference between 'projector' and non projector type headlights? I went onto a automotive light specialist website and they seemed to list bulbs for differing headlights for the same 996 C4S. :dont know:
My apologies I missed the age of the car. Don't know for sure on the 996.2 headlights. Have a 996.1 headlight next to me now (doesn't everyone?) but that's clearly of limited use!
I don't believe so, at least not for a 4S. The problem I think you will find with generic websites is they will probably not have the data of 996 by specific year and model. So probably if you search for any 996 it just list everything possible for any 996.
I had a look at the Porsche PET and for 996.2 which a C4S as the model only existed after the facelift had taken place. There are only 4 possible types for each headlight and they are Bi-Xenon for LHD, Bi-Xenon for RHD, Halogen for LHD and Halogen for RHD.
In any case the Bi-Xenon had its arrangement of a HID bulb for both high and dipped beams and the Halogen headlights always had H7 Dipped beams and H9 high beams. All facelift Halogens had projectors for their dipped beam.
996.1 cars had a load of different headlight variations (I think even having variations of projector dipped beams and projector ones but reflectors I think were only ever sold on Boxster). Even so for them bulb wise it was alway H7 for both dipped and high beam in Halogen enclosures and in Litrnonics they were a HID bulb for dipped beam a H7 for the high beam.
Sorry for the long write up but in short:
996.1(Halogen) Dipped beam = H7 - High Beam = H7
996.1(Litronic) Dipped beam = HID- High Beam = H7
996.2(Halogen) Dipped beam = H7 - High Beam = H9
996.2(Bi-Xenon)Dipped beam = HID-High Beam = HID
Picture from my 996 C4S's manual.
Thank you, that was what I was beginning to believe as most of the automotive bulb replacement websites seamed to be indicating H7 dip and H9 high. That's good! I'll confirm when/if I get the car as I'm looking to replace the halogens with LED's at some point.

Have been looking to upgrade my litronic headlights, for my 2002 cab, but there appears to be two types of litronic headlight.
One has the litronic for the lower beam and halogen for the high beam. And one uses the litronic bulb for both using a shutter system.
Does anybody know if it is the same litronic bulb for each system.
Thanks in advance Steve
