Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I’d guess average running costs are around £2k a year with a good independent specialist (there’s one near New Milton) maybe more with an official Porsche centre (OPC).

I would be a first time Porsche buyer with limited knowledge about car mechanics so I’d appreciate some advice on things to be mindful of, such as maintenance, potential engine problems, running costs etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I’ve been looking for a fun sport car, I’ve had a miniature model of a Porsche 911 Targa in my office for a few years now, it’s funny how you attract these things…
I came across this car:

It’s a Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe (996 I)

It looks like a beautiful car, but if it’s going to spend more time in the garage and will be costly, I’ll think twice.
This will be used for short daily journeys.
Thank you for your help
James

As they are old cars and parts aren’t cheap, elements like clutch, AC condenser, radiators, brakes, brake pipes, brake discs, suspension etc might need replacing. I guess if an OPC is selling this any urgent work has been done, however, does it have a history of some of those jobs being done in the last four years?

Are you specifically looking for an Auto? If not, I’d recommend driving both a manual and auto 996 C2.
+1 on the manual bit.
Some items are fairly cheap (clutch, coil packs, plugs), some others are eye-wateringly expensive (MAF, throttle body, etc.). Either way, plan to keep some money on the side for potential issues. At the very least 5 grand.
That is a lovely colour.
I have owned a 3.4 c4 automatic and it was very pleasent to drive so you should not be disappointed.
The 'thing' is that you are buying a very old car regardless of the warrenty, which really puts it in the realm of the DIY owner, and I can assure you that there is an awful lot of stuff that you can do yourself. The alternative is £65-110 per hour!!!!!!!! from an indy. (No one would take a car of this age to an OPC (but i am happy to stand corrected).
Parts are not really expensive, autodoc is the place to go for consumables such as suspension, filters, brakes parts, and much more. I mention this because I have restored 3 porsches and that is where i bought the parts. Also there are plenty of Porsche breakers where you can get the parts that you are sure to accidentally break.
So the question is are you prepared to occasionally 'weald the spanners '?
Then there is the engine!!!!!!!!!!
