When changing mufflers and maybe to 200 cell cats I am considering removing the headers and powder coating them.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have done a lot of research and know that changing the headers is not beneficial to sound or HP. When changing mufflers and maybe to 200 cell cats I am considering removing the headers and powder coating them. Any idea how long that would last? Just some changes in scenery that probably only I will know is there but still thinking of doing that. What do you think?

POST 2Original post

Bill, FWIW, I don't know about powder coating, but you may want to take a look at FVDs M&M equal length ported headers. You are right about not getting much from headers historically, which is why the majority of us never went beyond 200 cell cats and sport mufflers. However, I am taking a hard look at the FVD/M&M headers. FVD Brombacher teamed with M&M who builds Porsche's exhaust systems for their racing program. FVD asked them to design headers for the 996 a few years ago that would extract lower end power to couple with the mid/upper end performance improvements of the their 200 cell cats. I doubt M&M would want their name on something that didn't work. But I have not yet tried them. Hope it helps.

In GM world Heat resistant Ceramic coating, is more common on my LS9 Headers in HSV (Upmarket Chevy SS) the after market headers are shiny after Ceramic coating 4 years later. It's supposed to improved power and reduced under bonnet temperatures. For me it's staying shiny. I have Top Gear Headers I haven't thought of ceramic coating in the Porsche location. Different to an LS V8 where you can see a lot of the Header. But you've got me thinking.

POST 4Original post
