Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Update on problem as above, been ok for a couple of months then it's happened again, managed to get home and cleared after left overnight, stopped at garage next day and again no fault codes, one of the older engineers said problem is probably fuel pump or relay because you won't get a fault code for them so changed relay
Leading evidence: 'Replace relay' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'probably fuel pump or relay' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check rac cover is up' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Have taken the old relay cover off and the contacts are reasonably clean so I'm suspecting a faulty fuel pump

The only way I can describe it is back in the old days of carburettors, the accelerator pump was sticking so it would run but die on acceleration.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Needle in a Haystack springs to mind atm ... i can think of anything from a partially blocked cat to a failing fuel pump ..
Do you have a tester .. if so any fault codes ? can you see and report the fueling adaptations ?
Does the car feel like it is juddering .. misfire ?
Bit more of an explanation on what you are feeling , what the car is doing and at what point .. light throttle and heavy accelerating perhaps ?
Something for us to work on basically
Best guess .. maf sensor is giving an incorrect reading ( which could be an air leak after the maf ) or the fuel pump is lazy with the fuel pump being the most obvious out of the two .
It really needs a fault code readout and a look at some fueling adaption values first though .. these tell us how a car is running in general .. too rich / lean and how the car is having to adapt over time .
...morning Steve1 hope all is well...plenty of help available on the forum but you'll need to offer more than this bud...
...demort (Iain) can and does identify faults for us regularly via these posts...saving us time, money and stress but he and other's need something to work with
...Dig deeper brother
Hi again thanks for the help, could not give more information was down south coast for couple of days just drove home no problems drove smoothly no hesitation will pop into my Indy tomorrow get them to download any codes.
Just popped the question using phone while away.
Kind regards Steve
Just got back from my local indy, no fault codes recorded all clear.
Car driving ok now, was using E10 fuel from supermarket but don't think that would cause it so wait till next time.

Going to wait for it to happen then new pump trouble is it only seems to happen on longer journeys
Just going to check my RAC cover is up to date.
Fuel (and fuel pumps) get hot so it's conceivable it could be worse on long journeys. I'm a bit sceptical though as unless the pump intermittently cuts out it should still be delivering enough fuel under part throttle.
Next time it happens, leave the engine running, carefully remove the fuel cap and see if there is a vacuum. Then see if the running is temporarily improved. If so it may be a problem with the vacuum system. Is it better or worse with a full tank?
Car is in garage now been in for a week looks like they having difficulty finding any thing wrong as you say no codes no lights.
The only way I can describe it is back in the old days of carburettors, the accelerator pump was sticking so it would run but die on acceleration.
Hi Steve, have you had any joy? I`d say now with mine i can actually make the car do this if i drive on a slight incline with just light throttle application (even holding at constant position) it does feel like dirt or fuel starvation. still no warning lights and still completely fine when asked to work hard. :dont know:
