Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Has anyone replaced the third brake light with an LED? I'm tempted by this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3rd-Brake-Light-LED-Porsche-996-PO140001-g-XINO-TUNING-/121655257219?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_71&hash=item1c5337e883 Regards

POST 2Original post

Just beware..I had a bad experience a couple of years ago when I purchased 2 similar from a well known UK Porsche independent parts supplier. They triggered dashboard warning lights & I subsequently discovered the lights needed additional resistors fitting to prevent this. In the end I returned them as I did not want the hassle of DIY amendments & I'm not very practical at such things. FWIW I think they look great...so if this supplier has this issue sorted I'd go for it. Worth a phone call to Italy to check ? Dave S

Good point - will check that. Thanks. Nicholas 2002 996 C2

POST 4Original post

Nicholas.let me know how you get on. If they don't generate warning lights I'll be buying 2 new ones myself!

POST 6Original post

I think that some of the LED units could mess up cruise control, as the brake lights aren't high enough resistance. it can also be an issue with early 9x7 cars, which have bulb monitoring in the control units. (Later ones used LEDs and there is a setting for them in the control unit). The 996 lighting system is all hard-wired, so apart from the cruise issue with the brake light, they generally work OK.
