Shockingly I will say, the muffler delete with incorporated resonators has less drone on my car with the setup I’m running (vs another aftermarket brand muffler I ran on the car prior)

Suggestion
For the setup you’re looking for with minimal to no drone and a more tame tone when not under load-I’d have to agree and recommend either going Fister or Gundo.

I ran some Fabspeed deletes that I purchased used in the classifieds while my mufflers were out at Fister's.

Started with a 200 cell X pipe exhaust, some used muffler delete pipes, then cut, measured everything up for a clean look- and had my shop weld the small resonators onto the deletes with the muffler delete tips (looks near stock from the rear).
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Watched some YouTube videos of 996s with the muffler delete pipes and thought it sounded pretty good. I figured it was worth a try for $150 and I was wrong . The sound is horrible, sounds like V6 dodge charger without mufflers until you hit 5k RPM then it sounds like a proper race car. Couldnt swap back to stock fast enough. Dont waste your time or money. Go with Fister or PSE.
Exhaust sound preference is like what music one prefers, individual.
I thought it sounded great and the weight reduction off the back of the car (where it is hard to find weight to shed) is significant.
And, it's cheap.
I ran some Fabspeed deletes that I purchased used in the classifieds while my mufflers were out at Fister's. The sound was neat but driving my wife to dinner with the deletes was not pleasant. The Fisters sound decent without all the drone.
I do agree with Zbomb that if youre after weight savings, the deletes are the way to go
I did a muffler delete on my 99' C2 Cab years ago and I still love it. I drive the car "gently", don't go roaring around or blasting away from stop lights, but I do appreciate the sound it makes like a proper sports car. To each his own.
Love my sound with the muffler delete but I do get a slight drone so I’m swapping in a fabspeed x-pipe with muffler delete hopefully sounds as good without the drone
Mike
I had them and also didn't like it. It sounded kinda cheap [IMO, no offense yall] and the drone was
killing
me. I have FVD exhaust on there now. \While I lost the sound, it just sounds better overall.
I used to be into super loud exhausts. Four hundred cubic inch American Muscle, or 1750cc V-twin Harley, or even big rigs.
Then I got some hearing damage. Hilarious. Not.
A good sounding car/stereo/spouse/movie/anything can sound good at many different levels. Doesnt have to be at 119dbA to sound good.
Great aggressive sound exactly what a Porsche should sound like
remember it’s a Porsche designed by Germans for speed not cruising to Chick-fil-A let the world know you mean business pansies
Zbomb, I like your setup. I actually put something together very similar with my car. Started with a 200 cell X pipe exhaust, some used muffler delete pipes, then cut, measured everything up for a clean look- and had my shop weld the small resonators onto the deletes with the muffler delete tips (looks near stock from the rear). Car sounds as close to a GT3 as we will get with the M96. It is on the louder side but much better with the smaller diameter 54mm X pipe, 200 cell cats vs running straight deletes. Ill have to dig up some photos prior to fab
Do you have a link or part number for those small resonators? I agree I love the idea of getting weight off the rest of the car, but a full delete doesnt have the best sound. Do you have sound clips of this setup? I would like a higher pitched whine similar to the GT3 exhaust.
Your car sounds like it looks. We get that you're into drawing attention to yourself, but that's not for everyone. I much prefer the way the car looks and sounds just the way it left the factory.
And you’re the guy that comes into an exhaust thread to proclaim they prefer stock exhausts…. Weird huh. Like what would even make a guy like yourself who gets jazzed up by stock come into, and subsequently comment in a thread specifically about modified exhausts…
As Jim said…”people are strange”
Enjoy your lame sounding 911 👍
Zbomb is the bomb
Exactly my car looks and and sounds the way I want it to
if you like it great if you don’t I really don’t give a f*** it’s enhancements are for me
so fishbait please return anytime for your wonderful insight on what to do if everyone should be like you
Because the guy with the pep boys special 911 called us pansies for not liking his Honda flavored exhaust.
Going muffler-less on a road car covered in miscolored parts is trashy at best.
Also to be clear my car does have aftermarket mufflers... I just said I prefer the car stock over (ghetto) mufflerless, on a road car especially.
Lol! Fragile much bro? You are literally the one who said everyone who doesn't agree with you is a pansy.
Seems like maybe you're compensating for something with all those flashy bits 😂
Take the sweater off your neck bro and live a little.
Remember, we all have the ****ty 911. If you want to go full sweater and porsche ball cap… you’re gonna need to step it up to a 991. And for the record, NY knows I thought his bumper was whack… and I know he got something up his sleeve to right that wrong.
I liked my ghetto exhaust… and you can stick that right up your quiet exhaust pipe. ETA … I like my mis-colored car too
I’ll leave you with a present.

Never heard a Gundo hack in person before until I heard Mike Murphy's on the track. Incredible sound without going off the rails with additional part replacements. Probably the best "sound" mod pound per pound. If I was looking for better sound for the street, this is the mod I would do.
If you want weight savings and performance enhancements, you gotta replace the OE exhaust with various configurations of headers/cats/mufflers. Keep in the back of your mind that you can Gundo hack any muffler to get more sound. But from a sound standpoint, the muffler is designed to "muffle". The question is always how much "muffling" do you want?
What are your objectives?
1. Sound
2. Performance Enhancement
3. Weight savings
Unless you track your car, #2 and #3 are irrelevant because you can't use them on the street, matter how fast you think you may be.
Not to mention you actually track yours and provide a lot of good feedback in some of the more technical threads revolving around track use. Regardless of colors or exhaust selection, you at least are using your 996 to it's full potential. I doubt a certain someone in here does.
I definitely feel I achieved more of a GT3 sound. Here’s a clip light cruising. I will be adding more clips over the next month

The combo is FVD Manifolds, 200 cell X pipe Top Gear (54mm)-and the resonators. Definitely gives it a more of an exotic GT3-esque sound. I’ve found some of the larger catted x pipes with muffler deletes offer a deeper tone, which I wasn’t shooting for. It seems the 54mm size X pipe gets you to that sound.
It’s definitely on the very aggressive side, but shockingly doesn’t drone any more then some supercups (if you’ve heard them)
Here’s the link to the total flow resonator, they “claim 2.25” inlet outlet, but I believe the outlet was 2.5”- a little fab work is needed. Measure, cut and weld them up to some muffler delete pipes, or create your own combo with some 90 degree elbows and tips. I used fabspeed delete pipes on mine.

Thanks for the entertainment above guys, love where this thread has gone hahaha
I agree, for $200, the Gundo makes sense. Ive had muscle car flowmasters, Harley loud exhausts and many others, so surprisingly, the Gundo is a perfect balance of increased output without it being too loud or breaking the bank.
I am currently still stock. I am gathering components for a fister type bypass that will have a manually actuated valve for the times you want quiet stock exhaust note.
OK, but the Gundo/Fister/whatevs is hardly loud enough to warrant that. Its quieter than any aftermarket exhaust Ive had on any car, and quieter than my M3 (in loud mode, anyway). If you went with headers or high-flow cats or catless x pipe then the valves would be worth the trouble.
The loudness with the Fister/Gundo is directly related to the throttle position and RPM. WOT at 6000 RPM is loud. Cold start and cruising around town is pretty quiet. Highway at 80 mph is quite tame. Even WOT at 3,000 RPM isnt very loud, but you will hear it.
Somewhere in the 996 forum is a link to Mike's exhaust sounds with his gundo hack on the track. Don't remember if the clip does it as much justice as in person, but it does sound great.
@GC996
I can also recall hearing clips of Mikes setup somewhere on one of the threads. It does sound quite good too.
@abossana
For the setup you’re looking for with minimal to no drone and a more tame tone when not under load-I’d have to agree and recommend either going Fister or Gundo.
I’ve found many other aftermarket mufflers on our cars will give some level of resonance. Shockingly I will say, the muffler delete with incorporated resonators has less drone on my car with the setup I’m running (vs another aftermarket brand muffler I ran on the car prior)
My muffler delete setup was great sounding as as others said right pedal dependent on sound level
but I switched out to the xpipe with 200 cell cats and muffler delete and it’s loud but exotic sounds on throttle people from a distance have said it has a Lamborghini sound
but either system works great but it depends on your tolerance
I'm relatively new to P-cars and so I haven't heard a lot of other exhausts. My car has PSE and I must say I really like it. I can keep things quiet in the neighborhood, then flip a switch and get a fuller, throatier, and yet very pleasant boost in sound. No drone, no negatives whatsoever. Except weight I guess, and to be honest I don't much care. It's not a race car.
