To be fair to it, it's been brilliant, but with prices dropping a little bit on these 718 GTS 4.0 (I've seen my ideal one for like £65k) they are now an incredible lightly used proposition.

It seemed everywhere I looked the 718 GTS 4.0 had nothing but positive reviews and so based on these reviews and a 30 minute test drive I took the plunge .

Around three months ago I took the plunge and bought a new 718 GTS 4.0 Cayman from Porsche Wolverhampton . This is my second Porsche after a 911 991 GTS which was then replaced by two Aston Martin Vantages . I really enjoyed both of the Vantages but in the end felt they just lacked that bit of connectivity and response which on reflection is perhaps the difference between a Sports Car and a GT .
I skirted around the McLaren Brand and doubted if they could fulfil my needs as a daily driver though inevitably the Salesmen assured me that they could . I then drove a couple of the current 911 range and felt they had put on a little weight though to be fair by this time I already knew the future was going to be a Porsche . The Cayman rightly or wrongly always struck me as bit of a strange one . a bit like a stepping stone to a 911 and I wasn't convinced . However the Astons long gone and being car less I had to make a decision and so I began avidly reading various car reviews . It seemed everywhere I looked the 718 GTS 4.0 had nothing but positive reviews and so based on these reviews and a 30 minute test drive I took the plunge .
I have to tell anyone in a similar position that it is a wonderful machine . If I was levelling any criticism then it would be the lack of in cabin storage and wheels that seem to pick up gravel rash pretty readily . I had the whole car covered in Xpel PPF immediately after buying and I think that was a wise move especially considering the state of the British road network .
I have now ran her up to 6000 miles and normally I would be looking to exit but I find that I am enjoying myself so much that I shall hold onto her a bit longer perhaps indefinitely .
I was fortunate to buy a good spec everything being there apart from the Burmester , I have the Bose and in Arctic Grey I think the car looks the part . Dealership wise I found Porsche Wolverhampton very good but Porsche Silverstone pretty dire .I appreciate that's my personal experience and other views are out there but the important thing was it didn't detract from the Product and for that I am thankful .
I stick this Post up this morning simply because the 4.0 GTS is a really enjoyable car and one which I have really been delighted by . As I said earlier , its purchase was almost entirely based on the positive reviews from the Motoring Press and I haven't been disappointed .
Another Cayman GTS 4.0 fan here. Done 6000 miles in mine too and still really pleased and impressed with the car.
I think it's very practical for a two-seater and I love how it goes and how it looks.
Any excuse to post a picture!
Another with 6000 miles on a GTS. Really enjoying mine and don't see myself moving it on, prefer it over the 992.
I'd agree on the interior storage, the door bins could be a couple of cm wider and would then be much more useful, somewhere in the centre console for a phone would be nice too, I find myself leaving mine behind with it being hidden away in the arm rest cubby.
Only real grumble is the Bose, pretty poor sound imo. I'll eventually get around to doing the front dash speaker upgrade to see if that tames the upper mids.
Gratuitous pic too...
On a similar theme, I’ve had my Boxster 25 (a 4.0 GTS in drag) for just over 2 years and have done 16k miles in it from new. Having driven at least half those miles on road trips all over Europe and the UK I’d say it’s the best sports car I’ve ever owned and have every intention of keeping and using it until I can’t drive any more. Mine has collected a few stone chips and marks as well but I’ve accepted that it the price of enjoyment and I’m looking forwards to 2 more European road trips in it this year.

Same... GTS4.0, just coming up to 2 years old and has 12700 miles on the clock. The car just gets better. Exhaust note changed at 10k and is more fruity, don't ask me why or say I'm imagining things but it has.
Agree with the amount of road rash the alloys get between the spokes and I'm glad I never went for black otherwise it would have pushed my OCD nuclear but I'll get them refurbished later down the line.
I'd like to think she's a keeper.
I'd echo the sentiment about the exhaust note improving. Absolutely no idea why either!
I've put a few scribblings down about mine and its little adventures so far in a thread

: I'd love to hear how the GTS 4.0 compares to the 911s that you owned. Specifically, handling, acceleration, braking, road manners, feel, noise (inside the cabin and outside), etc.

, love the car, yet I keep looking at 911s and wondering whether I made the right choice.
Nov 2020 car bought with 4k miles last May .
Now 10k miles and taken to Germany and Switzerland for a holiday .
Fantastic car . I would have considered a 996 GT3 or 981 GT4 but this is ideal for me .
2 months and 1k miles into ownership of a PDK Boxster GTS for me. So far so good. Previous Porsche was a manual 981 GT4, and I had a brief and poorly-judged fling with an Alpine A110 in between.
Only thing that has been a bit of a disappointment so far is traction from standstill on damp/wet roads is pretty poor, particularly turning left/right out of junctions. My car has P Zeroes on it; wandering if it is a "feature" of them and PS4s would be better?
2.5 years / 6.2k miles in a BGTS 4.0 complaints pretty much none , not a lot of interior stowage space and the BOSE probably isnt worth the money but it will do , everything else is super , normally at this point I would be thinking what's next but currently I'm not

The 911 991 GTS I owned was one of the last N/A 3.8 litre versions and was in Carmine with the black Centrelock wheels . It was well specced with a full terracotta ? Leather Interior . I had come from an F Type SVR which in comparison to the Porsche I had found to be a flying machine let down only by the driving position which in comparison to the Porsche was a bit high and this in turn didn't inspire the same confidence when it came to high speed bends .
The GTS whilst lacking the outright pace of the SVR was I found a much more engaging and rewarding drive but for some reason became a bit breathless north of 150mph . I posted this on a Porsche Forum and was met with the inevitable " this isn't the case with mine " comments but meeting another Owner local to me who had similar opinions ( he had been humiliated by an Audi) strengthened my resolve to get rid . I am well aware some will no doubt consider me a Plonker for that pithy explanation but at 60 years of age I am anxious to keep my motoring experiences ever-changing for as long as I can and this is what happened to me with the 911 GTS . I had absolutely no mechanical problems with the car and the P Zeros for once I found perfectly adequate . My main issues were an inability to keep the paint gravel rash free over the rear arches and on the rear wheels .
I find the Cayman 4.0 GTS in comparison to my old 991 GTS to be much more alive as well as more connected to the driver . I also find it much more quicker . The one comparison that I really ponder on is the one between the F Type SVR and the current Vantage . Apart from the obvious status in the eyes of many in owning an Aston , performance wise I find it really hard to split them . I doubt the Aston is worth the premium over the SVR .

Your Car looks wonderful Scrounger in that Colour and its been great that People are actually driving these Cars and enjoying doing so . I struggle with the usual Porsche Future Value Threads that tend to populate Porsche Forums , we all work hard , get them driven and enjoyed .

Turbo S (driven but not owned) is an astonishing car, but for me, so fast as to be frustrating. Foot to the floor moments are rare.
My favourite 992 is the base model, although with the way they've limited options I'd like the T if I was speccing another from new with sPASM, rear steer, sports exhaust and PDK.
Carrera 2 is a great everyday drive, still very fast. Sounds better with the sports exhaust than the S and GTS for some reason (Turbo doing less work so less restrictive?) and financially it's broadly comparable to the 718 GTS.
Comparing those 2 (owned) then performance is similar but delivered differently. Turbocharged thrust vs Normally aspirated, very evident if you do a Launch. 718 holds the revs above 6000 and is still slipping the clutch as you go past 30 mph then hooks up and really gets going, the 992 gets the drivetrain engaged much earlier then uses the torque to provide the acceleration. Same times, very different experience.
Ride comfort is similar, 992 is slightly softer especially if on 19/20 standard wheel size. However, both do the Porsche trick of being engaging/sporty/taut yet compliant. Braking, there's nothing in it, excellent. All Porsche cars are able to brake to a standstill in half the time it takes to accelerate to 100 kph, and do it with plenty of feel.
From passengers who have modern Porsches and have never been in a 718 GTS they all comment on the engine sound when I take them for a spin compared to the current turbo engines. Tyre noise in cabin is fractionally less than 992 but may be the induction noise is masking it slightly? Tiny differences if any. Mid engine does feel different, and can definitely be snappier when the rear starts to move, but those limits are high and not likely to be experienced on the road. Engine at the back is noticeable, but for some that is part of the Porsche experience.
Broadly 718 feels like more of an event and is a little more connected/direct in all departments.
Tech and cabin is older gen, but I actually prefer that. In PDK the selector is a fundamental difference between the two. Modern small paddle selector is set and forget, whilst the old style "gearlever" selector for the way I use it is a clear win. There's a reason the GT3 still retains the older type set up, it's better.
Things that might sway me towards a 992 would be practical issues.
If I needed rear seats, as compromised as they are, there's a certain size of child that will fit. I'd quite like a sunroof ! Not available on 718. I'm a long legged 6'2" and am at the limit of a proper fit in 718, 992 the seats can go further back.

Really enjoying the pictures and the fact that the cars are being enjoyed and driven as intended . As I said earlier , its the first car I ever bought largely after only reading Reviews and it hasn't disappointed . The GT4 was the elephant in the room , from memory an extra 20hp from the same engine ( please feel free to correct me if I have that wrong ) but when I looked many had been tracked and that worried me . I was also a bit self conscious about that rear wing and me being a (very young) 60 year old . I almost felt I was back in the old Escort Cosworth on my way to pick up a tasty bird .

I have just gone from a cayman to a f type, I found the cayman to cramped, it could have done with a glass roof and the tech a bit outdated. I would be tempted by a manual GTS boxster along side the jag or a 992 T for the best of both.
Glad to here you using yours, I hate to see low millage cars.

You certainly don't have the accommodation of the F Type that's for sure but I certainly find it much more of a drivers car . The 4.0 GTS comes with the Car Play so its not too bad though I don't think the Tech in general is as intuitive to use as the Jaguar System . Many will disagree with that last comment but its purely my own personal experience .
10k miles in, bought new December 2020. Every time I drive it I wonder how and what I’m ever going to replace it with! Ideally I’d like to keep it forever and transition it to a second car but not sure if finances will allow. We have a Tesla Y for family duty, so no NEED to change, but I feel a bit self indulgent keeping it for what is now only a form of transport for me…
Still keeping it though

Definitely keep it. 4 cars in our 2 person household. Boxster 4.0, Elise, Golf R, Fiat 500. Discussing at the moment if we should get rid of one, and if we do it will be the Fiat!
Here's my 22 GTS. Currently has about 15k on it. Absolutely love it. It fizzes and chunters like an old Porsche (in my mind, maybe it's broken) and has so much character, can't see me ever getting rid.

I only had to wait 10 weeks for a new build 4.0 GTS Cayman - delivered last month.
Coming up to 19k miles for its 3 year birthday (and warranty renewal) next month, it's been brilliant - I can't think of another road car I'd replace it with.
I'd also echo the exhaust getting slightly more throaty with age. Only minor annoyance is the alcantara steering wheel has gone a bit flat, despite trying to maintain it myself. I've got it booked in for a 'steam clean' with a local detailer who seems to think this works really well, but we'll see.
For anybody using Apple Carplay I'd really recommend the
https://carlinkitcarplay.com/
adapter, which plugs in under the armrest and gives you seamless wireless carplay.... game changer!

I am far from being a Porsche anorak as such but I think these are two different Cars for two different users .The occasional Track Day and more recreational use then I think you would go for the GT4 and for that sort of Buyer I think the relatively small differential is worth it .
Otherwise , I think the 4.0 GTS would be the better all round buy .

Agree with this. I found my 981 GT4 too stiff on many UK roads but perfect for track days. Early days with my 718 GTS but feels like a better compromise on the road, and I'm not intending using this one on track.

Seems it'd be a good car for adding come miles
That is a 2.5 turbo, not the 4.0. (In case you hadn’t spotted that).

Nice one for sale in Luxemburg with some nice goodies, looks even better then a GT4 from the rear, it also has the GT4 Buckets and more.

I wonder what that Akrapovic exhaust sounds like....... I would guess given location it's this car, although its hard to really tell the noise difference from this clip.

good find, I guess its that same car a bit earlier on, as it now also has a higher carbon rear spoiler.
it sounds great via my speakers its darker then before, more hungry, I would not need a valve'd system though, just open all the time, no extra buttons/switches.

Flogged for a few hours every weekend come-what-may and driven whenever I need to. The best drive so far was in horrible conditions on New Years Eve around North Essex/Herts while the roads were quiet. I managed to get the ABS to kick in. Go me!
It's not been that clean since. That was soon after picking it up in October 22 and I took it to JZM for a fast road alignment. I've done nearly 8000 mostly proper miles in it so far.
How it usually looks:
A truly brilliant car, not perfect, but close. The folding buckets change the character of the car imho.
Some lovely specs in this thread

Folding buckets sounds ideal to me.
Did you go manual too ?
Yes! It's a manual. I had a PDK 981 Cayman S with the sport chrono package before and that was great. When I had a new 718GTS on order, I spent a weekend with a manual Cayman GTS and decided that as a thing to drive, the manual box made the experience better for me. And certainly not worth paying the additional 2.3k for the PDK transmission. Sadly, I never did get my brand new Cayman, so bought this second hand instead.

Use cheap makeup removal wipes, it comes up like new!
Make up wipes maybe a little harsh over time. Definitely worth trying baby wipes - incredibly good at removing marks from almost all surfaces and gentle too!
Well just an update as you may have read it on another Thread . I ended up covering 22700 miles over 14 months and the car was possibly the best purchase of my motoring life an astounding vehicle for the money . I toyed around with the idea of possibly getting a GT4 to replace her but sadly couldn't find one with the right spec though one did come close . In the end I walked away for several reasons .
Saturday afternoon I took delivery of a new GTS 4.0 GTS from Porsche Wolverhampton and I gingerly drove her down the M6 back to MK . I put the first 100 miles on her this evening and don't expect to do many more until she goes in for PPF next week . £4200 from my friend who does all Aston Martins work as opposed to the £6k it would have cost at Porsche Wolverhampton . I realise many will say its a waste of money but I honestly cant stand seeing paintwork damaged especially when I can do something about it . I don't know at what price Porsche Wolverhampton will retail my old Arctic Grey GTS but anyone considering a purchase can at least know that the car wanted for nothing whilst I had her . I had her serviced at every 10,000 complete with oil change and she is also fully PPFd in Xpel .I am really looking forward to the next year in the new car . I looked at McLaren , another Vantage , even another 911 . In my humble opinion the Media have it right , the 4.0 GTS is the best Sports Car you can buy for under £100,000 .

Wonderful . 30 years from now you will still be talking about this car its that good . Will you bother with any paint protection ? I suppose it comes down to how much you will drive her and how long you will keep her ?

Strong money being asked for that in my opinion .
Looks ok to me, just Bose and maybe Cruise if thats important. I only ever use cruise in average speed sections and Bose is a bit rubbish so better going aftermarket anyway.

Very nice.
I like the idea the GTS has better brakes than the S cars.
May i ask Spec and what you paid?

Not sure what’s extra on top of the GTS spec but here goes
Porsche Leeds with remaining warranty plus 2 years, so I have 29 months warranty in total
7000 miles one owner (it’s like a new car)
Just serviced by Porsche Leeds
Cruise control
Bose
Front and rear parking sensors
Dual zone climate control
Shark blue seat belts
2 new tyres
PDK
Sport Chrono, this may be standard on a GTS
I paid £62k 2 weeks ago.

You'd be surprised what isn't standard on a GTS, like the GTS interior, which you pay extra for. The full interior set was over £3k + VAT when I ordered mine in 2023. However Sports Chrono seems to have been at no cost, as were front and rear parking sensors and cruise control.
My white manual example was £80,600, including the outrageous £2,275 first year VED charge in September 2023. Seems to me like you got a good deal, but then I guess it would.
Joking aside, these are such fabulous cars that you just pay the ticket price to join the club, and enjoy them for what they are. As practical and usable high performance sports cars go, I really don't think you can get much better.

Lovely stuff and seemingly decent enough price too.

"Equipment includes Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)..."
Assuming the Ad is corrrect , and the photos do look like PASM, that's the 10mm drop (from standard) . 20mm drop would be sPASM (sport PASM). It really does make a difference, so long as that is what any prospective buyer wants.

Unsold at £57,650 plus fees, so £61,800
My GTS 4.0 with similar amount of spec (£11k worth), 72 plate MY23, Nov 22 build fetched £66k OPC retail in Aug 2024 (it was on 2.5k miles) - my trade-in was £57k.
Given the softening of the market and where the economy is going, £61.8k for the car seems like a good price tbh. It’s not like waiting for another year will help the price.
I’m fairly sure trade for this car would be low to mid 50s.
interstellar said:

I think it must have been close to reserve. Late 50’s is still a good offer.
Such low miles I think the seller would have thought 60 net to him especially with the buckets.
Amazing car

That seems correct, and a good comment. I've had PASM on all 4 718 Caymans I have ordered from new so far, and nearly got wrong-footed when spec'ing the 4.0 GTS. The 20mm lower PASM sports suspension was standard fitment, and specifying PASM raised the ride height by 10mm. I sometimes wonder how many cars arrive with a bit more ride height than was really desired, as you really needed to read everything twice in the Configurator. It does make a difference, but because it's adaptive, I have found the ride quality on the "fully lowered" version totally acceptable for everyday road use. Might only be 10mm lower, but they look a bit more purposeful for it too.

I thought this would only make about 53-55K with it being retailed at early 60's.

If the seller had wanted £60k net the highest bid of £57650 would have left the auction marked as provisionally sold because that is what happens when bids are within 10% of the reserve price. The seller does not have to accept the highest bid and there is usually some negotiation between the seller and the highest bidder. In this particular case the seller is being perhaps a bit optimistic as it has just been relisted at £67750

I wish I had some of you boys confidence because I am very wary of buying from anywhere other than an OPC . In fact I wouldn't even consider it though of course we are all different . I went to Ashgood a week or so ago to look at their red GT4 YN23XMY . I got two different stories as to how they came by the car . One told me it was being sold on consignment and the other it was their car . For me that completely ended my interest and I simply walked away .
The car disappeared from their stock for a week or so and some on here reckoned it was sold . I was pretty sure it wasn't and its reappeared last week .

I agree with that Liam , I am so glad I bought another rather than the McLaren I was contemplating . Practicality as a daily driver is of course another great quality of these cars .
So i have driven 400 miles in it since i picked it up.
I get in the car yesterday and get a tyre pressure warning, turns out to be a screw in the rear drivers side.
New tyre needed, not the best start to ownership.

PITA, but it happens, don't let it spoil your enjoyment of the car. I had 2 windscreens and 2 tyres replaced on a new car within the first 1000 miles some years ago!
Is it repairable? Subject to the usual criteria and if you don't intend tracking it or going 'Bahnstorming then it might be a way to eek out some more useage before replacement.
If you are on Pirellis then at 7400 miles they are probably nearly "done". When mine got to below 4mm there was a very noticeable drop in traction, 3.8mm iirc at 7800 miles.

Sorry to chuckle, but my very first new 718 Cayman 2.0 got a screw right next to the shoulder of the driver's side rear at about 300 miles back in 2017. I didn't go for the tyre insurance when I bought the car, so I was a bit dejected at the cost, spoiling new car ownership a little. I got over it, but then had the same again at about 8000 miles. I reluctantly replaced the rear tyres as a pair so the wear wasn't too uneven, and upsetting the LSD that comes with PTV.
If it helps, you might just chuckle when the same happens to someone else in future. PITA, and really not what you need. I've continued to never get the tyre and wheel insurance over 3 more new Caymans since, and I'm quids in, so I'll never bother getting that.
Liam
I do need a new tyre, but luckily I am on very good terms with my local garage and he is letting me have it at trade price, just charging for fitting.
It’s ordered and it should be ready tomorrow afternoon.
I drove it over the Kirkstone pass in the Lake District yesterday, couldn’t really enjoy it to much as the weather was awful with snow on the tops, roll on summer

Presumably the 6% plus VAT fee on top so £64,320 cost for buyer.
