Suggestion

I've never forgot to replace any cap after fueling up, so it's not something I need.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car came with a gas cap w/o the strap or tether. I bought a new cap and the required rivet from Pelican, but then wasn't sure how to properly install it. Yeah, I know, insane. Anyway, is this correct? --

POST 2Original post

Looks like it's correct. However, my rivet mounts in a different spot. (2004 base)

POST 3Original post

INCORRECT. The rivet is in the wrong hole. If you post a pic that shows more, I can point out the proper mounting hole.

Thanks. Take your pick:

POST 5Original post

Found this on Pelican Parts blog, showing the correctly position.

POST 6Original post

THe other option, if your MY doesn't have that hole:

That's it. Here is how it looks on my 2002:

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! Unfortunately, my car doesn't have a hole in the location shown above. I guess I'll just leave it as is. Thx again.

POST 10Original post

Has anyone had to change the locking mechanism on the gas fill door? Mine doesn't lock when I lock the doors like it's supposed to. Haven't seen the part anywhere and don't know how hard it would be to change.

POST 11Original post

I had the same problem with my 1999. When I put the rivet in the hole under the clip, the lid wouldn't close. I then used a flat head bolt and nut in the same hole and the problem was solved. I like the solution grtc68 used. I was wondering what that screw to the left of the gas cap was for? I think I'll switch to his solution.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 343562

Yeah, I ended up moving mine to that location. Works fine. Thanks all, esp grtc68!

POST 13Original post

I also have a 2000 Boxster, and it is layered out same as yours. The fuel door is also the same without the pivot point on the bottom it for the tether.

POST 14Original post

My solution....I CUT the tether off. I've never forgot to replace any cap after fueling up, so it's not something I need. I always place the cap onto where the windshield wiper rests about 8 inches from from the filler. My other car and motorcycle also don't have tethers.....just don't need them.
