The result is obviously not perfect but can give a reasonable impression of what the finished product might look like (Of course, you could spend more time creating a more detailed prompt or using better tools than ChatGPT.

I have nothing to really contribute to this thread other than a tip I find useful for the visualization of projects like this: AI image generation (one of the very few use cases I can see a legitimate reason for that technology to exist)

I had some finish made for the seats using the code for Sea Blue - and that was too light.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Have searched the site and couldn’t find anything recently posted regarding having a custom upholstery shop put tartan or houndstooth fabric inserts into a
Boxster
or
Cayman
. I was at the
Porsche
experience center in Atlanta recently as saw a killer
911
with houndstooth inserts (pics below). So just wondering if anyone has done this and if so, are there any ‘rules’ to be aware of in terms of enthusiast views. I have an ‘09 BS in Arctic Silver with a black interior… thinking about black and white houndstooth or black and white glen plaid in seats middles and on doors panels. Appreciate anyone’s input!
PS - the driving experience is worth the dough … had an awesome time with a 90 min session in a brand new
Cayman GTS
.
Really nice but I don't see any 987 products listed. Also
"They will not fit the 4-way/18-way seats, since the center section of your seats are sewn in."
Too bad because my 987 seats could use a refresh.
Thanks … also found some good fabric options at a site called Relicate; ordered several samples.

Also found a shop near my home that does this type of upholstery work; will post pics if I move forward.
You might want to reach out to Classic9leathershop.com. I just recently purchased some material from them, which I am going to apply myself to the seat cushions for my Recaro Pole Position seats. I have an 07
CaymanS
. I looked at the doorcards, thinking to use the same material there. I'm sure it can be done but on my car, the door cards are one expanse of molded plastic. Short of doing the entire door, I wasn't sure how to make it happen, as an insert, and make it look decent. If you Google
Porsche
Houndstooth Fabric, I am going with the beige/black/white pattern.
Hi. This may not be of much help to you as I live in Europe.
I recently modified the centers of the seats in my 987.2, using material sourced from Relicate, based in the US.
The modification was carried out by a local upholstery shop and I'm very pleased with the result:
Very nice. I'm envious.. and it encourages me a bit more to pursue changing my centers. I got samples from Relicate the other day and there are two there that are very tempting"
Blue-cream large checkerboard:
BTW - the color on this image is all wrong (pulled from their website) - the actual sample that I have has light ivory and a definite blue for the dark squares. IMHO it may be too big a pattern for the seats.
And Blue/Black/White Pepita:
Decisions, decisions...
My interior - now (except it has the new headunit..)
Hmmm... it has blue, white and black now - looks like the Pepita 5787 might be the winner...
Hi Lovejoy. Although I was tempted to include a bit of blue, I finally realized that the interior only had two colours- black and beige and so went for the Replicate 5760 design in beige:
Lovejoy- Please note that I believe that the Kovi pattern is more akin to a houndstooth and not the
Porsche
"pepita" pattern. I would definitely prefer any of the Relicate textiles, which are more "authentic" and true to the
Porsche
original.
Deilenberger, I don't see blue anywhere in your interior- perhaps I'm missing something.
I could see a classic black/white pepita:
Or , to add a dash of elegance, I love this one:
Thanks … I actually have all of the samples you note from Relicate, plus several more plaids…. appreciate your ‘
Porsche
period input’, and will send pics with with I decide to do. Unfortunately it’s hard to determine what is considered ‘OE’ style because it varies so widely. A true houndstooth is in the Kovi pic below. Other Relicate samples under consideration to varying degrees also pictured. Will let you know which pattern I decide to go with!
You're missing the in-person view. It's option code FB "Sea Blue Standard Leather" - it's quite dark blue. In many light conditions, it looks black, but it isn't - it's dark blue. The top is even darker - it's Metropol Blue.
The blue is revealed more on the dash and especially the steering wheel airbag in the photo.. the seats are even darker, but still blue. I had some finish made for the seats using the code for Sea Blue - and that was too light. It ended up that Metropole Blue is a much better match on the seats and door panels.
I did have blue/white coco mats in it - but the blue faded badly. CocoMats replaced them for me - no charge - with black and white mats. They're holding up fine to the sun.
Don (and others) -
These are the Relicate samples I have ordered so far … the only one that’s missing is a Black Watch tartan. Any comments/opinions? The car is a
987.2
Arctic Silver. I am finding myself drawn the the top left plaid because it’s foam backed and is a washable material, and because it picks up the other colors with a splash of red for the brake calipers.
Thanks - Lovejoy
Hi there, take a look at the pictures of the interior of my blue Boxster on the first page of this thread.
P.S. Or maybe I have not understood what you mean by "seat backs".
I have nothing to really contribute to this thread other than a tip I find useful for the visualization of projects like this: AI image generation (one of the very few use cases I can see a legitimate reason for that technology to exist)
I asked ChatGPT to help visualize the reupholstering of those seats in the fabric in the picture. The result is obviously not perfect but can give a reasonable impression of what the finished product might look like (Of course, you could spend more time creating a more detailed prompt or using better tools than ChatGPT. But for 30s of time invested this gets the idea across).
They are left under the fabric, I have had seated seats re appolstered before and the elements are actually connected to the foam under the fabric or leather. The
mustang
had fabric and my mercedes had leather. Both were still fully functional after being reupolstered. I don't see why it would be any different for the
Porsche
.
