This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When down at Camtune a week back, I saw they had a 87k mile 996 cabrio for £25k. It is an early car in metallic blue / grey trim. Now, is something like this going to be a complete money pit? Then an idle thought ocurred to me - why not sell the Mrs' Toyota and get her a 996. It would be a school run / shopping / stable-yard car, so one could not get too precious about it. However, it would have to be reliable and preferrably a Tiptronic. Please tell me this is a stupid idea and would ultimately cost a fortune - so that I can shelve it! cheers tim

POST 2Original post

Tim - its a great idea!! Consider it!!! Of course get it warrantied and you are not looking at a money pit then I'd say. I am sure So Poo would add some valuable comments here. ~ Maxie

POST 3Original post

Great idea. Whilst out shopping one day I met a lady with a 993 cab who used it pretty much as you describe. Two teenage kids in the back and a sack off cool mix on the passegner seat. She described it as reasonably cheap to run and a whole lot more fun than the Peugot she had before.

POST 4Original post

If you spend some time getting a good one, then not a money pit at all. You would have to be less precious about the bodywork if using it every day.

POST 5Original post

I don't know about the independant warranties but the earliest 996s are too old for a PCGB one now
