Additionally i checked for engine vibrations via Piwis.

Ive had a static P1325 since I had the IMS Solution installed nearly 4 years ago.

But in terms of vibrations, I just had the headers replaced with a set of used ones from a car with 40k miles, and replaced the midpipes with straight pipes.

I'm not sure what sort of debris was in the passage, but I want to believe that treating the fuel and then immediately changing the oil cleared it and the underlying cause.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2003 (ROW) 3.2 with a 3 chain engine. So camshaft adjustment via oil pressure.
I had a IMS bearing change done by a workshop. Since than the engine shows vibrations in nearly every rpm range.
I've diagnosed it with Piwis and there is a static DME DTC P1325 error. P1325 = camshaft adjustment bank 2 (invalid signal).
I've cleared the code, but it came back after i drove above around approx. 4.000 rpm.
If the code is cleared, the engine seems t run a bit nicer if you only run it at low revs.
Additionally i checked for engine vibrations via Piwis. At low rpms they where at 10% and climbing up with rpms. To me that seems to be a pretty high value.
Camshaft position is on -0.8 and 1.6. So should be OK.
Unfortunately i don't have a detailed documentation on the face lift engines with the oil pressure controlled vane cell adjuster camshafts. But it seems that there are solenoids and connectors that can be checked. Does anybody have a detailed documentation on that?
Also some instructions on that P1325 DTC would be very helpful.
Thanks
Thanks JFP in PA.
That makes sense.
Also found a video on Youtube from Japan about this topic. In the video someone shows how he cleans these valves of his 3.6 996 engine.
https://youtu.be/wb8S9ng0vdY
Checked the PET. But in the 986 PET i couldn't find the valves. Than checked the 987.1 PET and it seems that the parts for the valves are part no 38 to 48.
Does anybody know which valve is responsible for which bank (1 and 2) of the engine?
Did you ever get to the root of this? Ive had a static P1325 since I had the IMS Solution installed nearly 4 years ago. I've not done much to track it down until now as I prioritized a complete suspension refresh and update brake hardware. After watching some videos about the 986.2 configuration of Variocam, I am left unclear on how best to remove dirt from the system without tearing down the head.
I would take it to a shop, but the local shops stare blankly when I ask them about variocam on M96 engines and start suggesting throwing parts and diagnostic time at it, none of which square with what Jake Raby has suggested countless times.
Hi JZeke,
sorry for the late response. I'm not very often here in this forum and the last time i've tried to access it, it was down.
My P1325 is intermittent. I couldn't track it down. I'm now on yearly oil and filter changes. The dtc came back twice in the last 4 years.
I'm not driving with the car much. So unfortunately i have no helpful hints for you.
Did you check the camshaft positions with Piwis?
I don't have a PIWIS, just a couple code readers but one of them does a great job reading cam positions, timing, deviations - everything that Durametric does. My deviations are ~1 degree on one bank and .6 on the other, and the cam timing on both sides (measured when hot) mirror each other perfectly.
So this season I ran a bottle of Techron full fuel system cleaner, which eliminated the passive P1325. Then I did an oil change with Mobil 1 FS 5W50 (Porsche's new recommendation for 986s amongst other older cars) and now it runs even smoother. I'm not sure what sort of debris was in the passage, but I want to believe that treating the fuel and then immediately changing the oil cleared it and the underlying cause.
But in terms of vibrations, I just had the headers replaced with a set of used ones from a car with 40k miles, and replaced the midpipes with straight pipes. The vibration change was radical! Seriously most of them are gone, with some remaining frequencies I think could be related to transmission mounts.
Interesting that a cleaner for the fuel system (which i use as well sometimes) is able to clear a code that (often) is related to a sticking hydraulic valve (camshaft actuator, P1325). I would much rather assume that frequent oil changes and the use of a system cleaner for lubrication (which I use as well) would have sorted that out.
Edit: Forgot to ask, which reader do you run to show similar values like the Durametric?
