I have the opportunity to get a smoking price on a
Boxster
indoor car cover for
981
for my 987
Cayman S
.
The only thing I think might not work is the side mirror positioning because the cars are pretty similar other than that. Any thoughts?
Looking at part number
981
-044-000-00 for the cover.
I think the fit will be off, mainly due to the side mirror pouches being in a different position. I know a friend of mine with a
981
could not fit a 987 cover on his
Boxster
.
I believe the
981
is bigger so it might work but not be a tight fit.
Well we're going to see what happens... I bought it. Hoping to test it out in the
next
few days as the car is already in storage.
I decided to take a leap on it based on a couple of things in this comparison... the
Boxster
defintely has more volume in the rear of the car and the side mirrors look to be pretty close to the same spot (not where they mount but overall) and the mirrors appear to be larger on the
Boxster
.

As Ernest said, might not be a super tight fit, but close enough for me. I will update for the sake of the forum once I've tested it out...
You can always fold your mirrors before you cover it.
Hey, an indoor cover is just to keep the dust off, right. As long as it fits over the 987, it works. But so would a bed sheet (high thread count to avoid scratches).
I agree. Unfortunately my bed isn't 14 feet long - I'm only 5'8". 😜
I tease!
The price of this
981
cover was competitive with a nice bed sheet.
The verdict is in.
It fits pretty well with a bit of a dumpy butt due to the
981
having a larger back end. This was a very fast test fit before dark and as my pizza arrived and was getting cold.
Here's a pic of my '19
718
Cayman
with the cover from my old '014
GT3
. A bit excess material over the back end that fills up if I have the wing extended.
Slows you how much both the
718
and
911s
have grown in in 20 yrs. - the
718
is now the size of a 996 while the
911
is the size of a whale - ;>)
