Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Looking at 987.1 , 987.2 , and 981 . I would really like to test drive the base and S models of all these cars without being hassled too much. Should I go to a Porsche dealer or independent dealer? I don't want to waste a private party's time with a test drive before I've at least driven the car once. I'm in no rush to buy, so I'd like to explore every option to decide exactly what I want. Also, is there any documentation listing all of the options/upgrades for each of these models? I just started my research, but I've mainly been looking into potential engine issues & the repair costs associated. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Carmax. They get Boxsters and Caymans pretty regularly. They will even have a 911 occasionally.

POST 3Original post

And of the reliability, the 987.2 2.9 is probably the most bulletproof motor that Porsche has made in the last 40 years.

POST 4Original post

Thanks! I'm leaning toward that car since I really don't want to throw $20k toward a rebuild on a $20k car, but if the engine lasts me 10 years then it's not that big of a deal. I really love how the 3.4 sounds. Next free weekend I have, I will see what carmax and carvana have.

POST 5Original post

Turo.com is a nice way to rent and drive any make/model of car that you might be interested in. It is like Airbnb or Vrbo, but for cars instead of houses. When I fly somewhere on vacation I use Turo for my rental car, and almost always select a Porsche of some type. -Joe
