Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace fluid' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace fluid' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Both plugs were on so tight I had to use a 3 foot breaker bar.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is very odd so I though I would share. I decided to change my fluid. Bought the proper fluid from suncoast. Anyway went to drain it and when I opened the drain first I could hear what sounded like air leaking. Sure enough when I got it fully opened nothing came out but the sound of air, then all sudden a rush of fluid. So I got absolutely no fluid on me. At least the 2.7 quarts came out. Both plugs were on so tight I had to use a 3 foot breaker bar. So my guess is this thing has been sealed so tight that the atmospheric pressure was much lower when it was filled and air rushed in not out. Or with the change in temps the seals have help pressure for a while. Anyway guess these things are sealed very tight.
A - those plugs are freaking tight = +1
B - the air was vacuum and is common, though I believe there should be a vent for the tranny somewhere, I cant find any info on it. Someone might be able to point to it and you and check it (if it exsits, I think I remember hearing they get clogged over time, but not 100% sure) The vent may in fact release pressure and not vacuum though?
did swapping fluid make any change?
they claim the fluid never needs changing - but I changed mine too
sorry to hear about the noise. IIRC the tranny parts are available but not too easy to do. I think someone said that one of the parts need to be unwelded and re-weld in the new one - all I recall is thinking "ouch" not a home job and forgot which parts we were talking about - might have been a syncro
Most manual trans with worn syncro's making it hard or some times grind to go into 1st can be tricked a little. When starting out go into 2nd then 1st and see if that helps. I've used it in 40 years of driving.
Yes, there is a vent directly on top of trans just behind the housing halves and could over time get stuck over time. It lifts to unseat and release pressure.
Teeth on gears can impart a sound and some times quite loud. I'm sure you don't know about the rock crusher transmission of the good old days. With square cut ends on teeth you get durability but more noise and the rock crusher does sound like a very loud rock crusher but its doing things just right. Through time and use your teeth on first might of worn down some changing the original cut they had so now you have noise. No real way of telling what the noise is from with out looking at it which means pulling it.
