Was told yesterday that 3 of my options will delay my CaymanS as they are not available yet. Painted wheels, Stainless Exhaust Pipes and Porsche Crest in head Restraint. Could push me as far as April next year.
Checked the Information guide on here (fantastic site btw - CHEERS!) and it states painted wheels 12.05, pipes 03.06 and crests 12.05. Anyone else getting the same feedback? If I ditch the pipes do these dates mean availablility for December deliveries or just the factory to actually carry out the options? An extra month into Jan '06 won't hurt but April '06 is too long a wait.
It's all about allocation I guess?
Any thoughts would be most apprecated!
Cheers

you could go aftermarket witht he exchaust and painted wheels if need be.or atleast get them retro fitted by dealer. you can always work theat into the contract with them.
Although the dates in the document are those you describe, it isn't clear if that means build date, or if they become available to order in that month and subsequently arrive months later. Since I have a Dec 05 build date and some of the 12/05 options are still not available I am beginning to think it means that you'd have to wait unitl Dec 05 to order your Cayman, which means a build slot likely in April or May and delivery in June/July time frame of 06. I hope I'm wrong and the options are available sooner.
Yes. I asked again today and was told the Short Shifter, Luggage Barrierand Carrera Sport Design Wheels would not be avaialble for my early Cayman.
Thanks for the reponses guys. I've decided to ditch those options in favour of getting in it sooner! I can always get the wheels painted again (probably love it the way it is and a marked alloy that's painted grey will be silver underneath and stand out and these things do happen) the pipes I'll get fitted when they're available to order - probably just a few bolts and the crests, well big deal I guess. A few friends/collegues were hoping my Terracotta was an non available option! /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wink_smile.gif

After the information guide was posted on this site I promptly called my dealer and tried to push my build date from November to December. He put it in the computer and it still kicked out the guards red seat belts, aluminum sills and crests in headrests. So it must refer to order date as opposed to build date. He is trying, but if the computer will not accept the options I am not willing to wait on items I can do after delivery.
What's weird is that Porsche already supply the current Boxster and 911 with the option of crest in the headrest and the seats look identical so I'm not sure what the problem is with this one?
final spec on our Cayman tomorrow, told at order point delivery may be Dec or Jan, just hope our options want delay the Cayman
...as far as I can tell it's any option code starting with an 'X' and they should be able to tell you straight away which options 'bounce back'.

Just as an FYI, I sat down with my dealership manager and looked at their computer and there is a list of options they can choose from in the computer. For example sport shifter is NOT listed in the computer, so there is no way to order it. It isn't a matter of items getting 'kicked back' but whether the dealership person can even select the item. I'm sure some dealers are telling their customers 'the computer kicked it back' etc. but what they actually mean is 'it isn't available to be selected so you can't order that option'.
There is nothing to try and put through and hope that it gets accepted, if it doesn't show up on the order entry screen, it isn't going to get accepted. Now the list of options available will change over time so that is what you need your dealer to do, go back in and check the list of available options and see if the item you want has been added to the list yet. If it has, have your dealer select it, but there is nothing your dealer can enter and wait for something to kick back, it doesn't work that way.
K-Man-S you are exactly correct. I had the same discussion with my salesman. He continues to try periodically to see if my options are available. He sends me an email and tells me when he checks the computer to see if my options are available. So far though, the three that were not available are still not available; guards red seat belts, aluminum sills and crests in headrests. All the dealer can do is keep checking.
K-Man S is correct. I sat down with the dealer at the computer to configure the car and we went through the categories. It's either there or not. There is an option to type in the code for specific option (i.e. XME) and it will not be accepted if it's not on the current available manifest. It's not like there is a "prelimary" configuration that goes to PCNA for approval.
...is the availability identical between the US and UK market I wonder? Either way I ain't waiting and just spoke to my Porsche dealer and they offer a service of painted wheels in any case so if I feel the need to spend another £600 when it arrives at least I still got the option.
