Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

replace the wheels with forged version and its the equivalent of having one less passenger.
Leading evidence: 'Replace wheels' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace wheels' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

My guess is that you'll see all the test cars running with the 18' wheels with the larger sidewalls because the weight is also more centrally concentrated for easier angular acceleration plus the larger sidewall gives a spring effect helping acceleration as well.

I don't think on a 295HP car that 4HP is going to result in a .2 sec difference, maybe .1, maybe not noticeable IMHO, especially since one car might have a full tank of gas or a 40lb heavier test driver, etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Have you seen the new Road & Track test someone posted on PPBB? Interesting, generally very good. The inevitable, and tired, comparison to 911 of course. 0 to 60 in 4.8 as predicted. Check it out.
Perhaps someone else can upload here. I am on my Mac at home and doesn't work so well on Safari.
It absolutely make a measurable difference. That's a lot of weight to accelerate both in a straight line, but more importantly angularly. My guess is it accounts for about a .2 second difference 0-60 just like lighter wheels have done on all my other cars. My guess is that you'll see all the test cars running with the 18' wheels with the larger sidewalls because the weight is also more centrally concentrated for easier angular acceleration plus the larger sidewall gives a spring effect helping acceleration as well.
For straight line acceleration sprung vs. unsprung isn't as important as going around turns (angular) as raceboy says, but still weight does play a role. The rule of thumb is 10HP per 100lbs. The weight difference between
PCCB
and standard is what 5lbs per wheel or 10, I can't remember, I think it is 5, but let's assume 10, that would be 40 lbs lighter overall or roughly a 4HP difference. I don't think on a 295HP car that 4HP is going to result in a .2 sec difference, maybe .1, maybe not noticeable IMHO, especially since one car might have a full tank of gas or a 40lb heavier test driver, etc.
One note of caution, while we allow posting links to PPBB on this site, they likely won't allow you to post a link to this site on PPBB. Silly I know, but what can you do?

C'mon, no way! Does anybody know exactly what the steel and ceramic brakes weigh?
I shoudl clarify- i did not mean for the weight in brake savings but i was talking in general about unsprung weight. replace the wheels with forged version and its the equivalent of having one less passenger.
FWIW, I went by the news stand and the Road and Track on the news stand is the October issue and there is nothing about the Cayman road test in that issue, although it is up for a finalist in best new car voting. Anyone know what issue is being referenced here?
It's actually 13lbs lighter per wheel. But you missed my point earlier about angular acceleration. Angular acceleration does not mean going around corners. It means that you have to accelerate that mass forward as well as in a circle. For example what is easier, twirling a 1 meter long wood stick from the middle by itself, or with a 2lb weight at each end? In the case of the wheels of the car you not only have to overcome inertia accelerating them forward, but also to get them rotating. It's a huge penalty.
Lessening unsprung weight also helps handling because it reduces the intertia of the wheel when it's moving up and down. This allows the suspension to better control the wheel and less kinetic energy from traveling into the suspended part of the car hurting ride.
Look for the issue with the Viper and new Aston Martin V8 on the cover. Saw it at the local Barnes & Noble today...
Good to see all the positive reviews.

Most of the guys (and a few gals) that have been there for a few years are pretty good. I haven't posted there for awhile, but been reading. Their attack on this site and K-Man S is unneccesary.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
