I am considering a Boxster S PDK with full leather so therefore I presume that will be similar to the 911 Cabrio I used last week.

Nice bonus is someone took the hit and put 5k of PCCBs on it, so easier wheel cleaning for me

it's probably better as the car would have been run regularly and the niggles sorted in warranty.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Was looking at 991s, but this came along!
My post from the 991 thread!
Right here is where we are.
To get a half decent spec'd 991 S at the moment with PDK (which I def want) and not Bright Yellow or Guards Red, means spending at least £70k. This will be at least 2 years old and have over 10k on the clock.
For at least 10k less I can have a nearly new, or new Cayman S with plenty of toys.
I have had plenty of cars (check my profile) and whilst money no object I would have the 991s, I just cant see the justification in the extra when I don't have kids and dont need the rear seats.
I think 987 Cayman versus 997 911, the 911 was the far better looking car. It is all subjective but I think the 981 Cayman looks fab, and although the rear of the 991 shades it, I prefer the side profile.
It is all of course personal preference, but I have first dibs on a massive spec Cayman S which I will probably do the deal on on Monday. I fully appreciate some of the 991 owners will think I am mad, but for my circumstances and planning to do a few track days and not needing the rear seats, it works for me.
I take the point on the interior, the 991 feeling a higher grade; the nice thing about the car I have found is it has the full leather to dash and doors which makes a big difference...
It has also only done 900 miles, and has 2.5 years of warranty remaining
Nice bonus is someone took the hit and put 5k of PCCBs on it, so easier wheel cleaning for me
Spec:
Cayman 3.4 S, PDK, Basalt Black Metallic, 20" Carrera S Alloy Wheels, Wheels Painted in Satin Platinum, PCM (Satellite Navigation), PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes), Yellow Calipers, PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), BOSE Surround Sound System, Adaptive Sports Seats, Full Leather Interior, Heated Seats, Bi Xenon Headlamps, Bluetooth Telephone Preparation, Sport Design Steering Wheel, Interior Package Painted, Centre Console Trim Painted, Yellow Seat Belts, Park Assist, Automatic Dimming Mirrors, Porsche PDK 7 Speed Double Clutch Transmission, Automatic Air Conditioning, Light Design Package, ISOFIX, Floor Mats, Includes Balance of Manufacturers Warranty Until 19/12/16.
I had looked at that - a lovely car with about £19k of extras by my reckoning - when trying to persuade myself not to buy a new GTS.
Have you bid on it?
That looks to be exactly the same spec car I saw at the Portsmouth OPC it looks fantastic I think the list for that one was £74K. Good choice you'll love it.
I'm sure you'll be very happy with it but reading through that lovely spec and finding it had an auto box was like seeing a stunning girl in a bar, who has a great personality, her own income........ and a cokc.
Shame.
I started off looking at 991s. For a lightly spec'd, 2 year old car with 15-10k on the clock you are looking at 70k.
I dont need the rear seats, so for me, a fully loaded Cayman S PDK for over 10k less that has done only 900 miles and has 2.5 years of warranty was the better car.
I've owned a 997s, a 987 Boxtser S, and a 987 Cayman S, and I think for me, not having kids, and planning to do a couple of track days, the Cayman represents better value.
Just my opinion.
I think the new Cayman looks better than the new 991. Not talking about the GT3, that is stunning but a standard 991 looks a bit tame. I think the Cayman looks fantastic. And having driven the 981 Boxster S I can attest that performance wise it's very capable. I don't think any of the reasons not to buy one instead of a 911 still apply from before. the new Cayman has matured and looks better than it's dad!

Yep, they are excellent value and remarkably capable- spanked mine over three alpine passes today and can't think of a better car for it. The suspension capability to deal with anything and everything is something else. PDK really makes sense when pushing v hard so if you're planning a few track days it'll be just the job. Good luck on doing the deal.

Funny, I sold my 991S in Sep last year. Was a Dec 2011 with 10k miles, fully but fully loaded spec (inc ventilated seats). Aqua Blue + black leather. I found the colour astonishing.
I tried privately.. couldn't sell it.. sold it as part-ex to a Dealer for 65k in the end. Car still had 1yr warranty left on it, bodywork in perfect condition... Either the market firmed up nicely for the summer.. or the colour was wrong.. or I was just unlucky ... but I would think that by now for 65k you can find a pretty good 991S.
And not sure why you bother by a car that has driven 10k miles.. it's probably better as the car would have been run regularly and the niggles sorted in warranty.
Looks great. Love the black with ceramics (same as my car). Just bear in mind it's incredibly difficult to keep clean. I'm forever cleaning/polishing/waxing/wiping mine!
Other than that, beautiful car.

Thanks, sorry, you misunderstand me, not in the least "bothered" by the car having done 10k or so, it was just a comparison.
I think prices are firm at the moment, if you look for sub 70k PDK 991s's with less than 20k on them and a half decent spec, there is ONE! (Red with tan interior).

Let me see. PDK's I've driven:
Cayman 987 Gen 1
Boxster 987 Gen 2
Cayman R 987
Cayman 981
Driven Tiptronics too.
And Mercedes 7G
And BMW SMG
And Ferrari F1 box
And Maserati Cambiocorsa
I hated every minute of driving them.
Now what was your point?

Now I am no expert on Cayman Gen 1's but I have never seen one with a PDK gearbox.

Yes you ARE an expert but also a pedant. Well done!
So, correct, not a PDK but it was a tip.
Also, in case you're an expert in other things, not all of the Tips I've driven were Tips.
Anyway, you aren't quite as annoying as they all were.

Isn't all of this a bit crass in a thread started by a bloke who is quite rightly made up at the thought of buying a very well specified Cayman S PDK?
As for your choice of pseudonym . . .
Back on topic...
A deal has been done.
Had a very pleasant experience at Silverstone.
to Alex (he likes wearing Leather but we will let him off) and Craig.
Nice to see a bunch of enthusiasts and some interesting older Pork in the showroom too.
Car is out of the box fresh. They whisked my 6 series off and valeted it whilst I took the Cayman out for a decent run. Drives superbly as I expected. Leather package really lifts the interior and PDK is just fantastic.
Hoping to collect this week, with a mate taking me there in his helicopter, will post up pics.
Cant wait.
is this the porsche dealership on the roundabout near silverstone (but not actually in silverstone?)
Sounds good. Are you part ex'ing? Buying or leasing? (hope you dont mind me asking).
Also. final spec?

Yes that's the one.
No part exchange, dont lke losing money on cars! Sold the Boxster for a £2k profit after a year
Final spec as I think it stands is below. Kindly the first gentleman who bought the car took the hit on a large chunk of the extras for his 900 miles!!
Got a good deal on a 2 year PCP. Chaps at Silverstone get the thumbs up from me. I'd also call out Lisa at Guildford who tried very hard to find me the right car, but just missed out in the end to the silly spec of this car.

Fantastic spec! I didn't really realise you could get pcp on a 2nd hand car. That makes things interesting! And jeez yeah, £4k on pccb and then traded in!
Looking forward to pictures!

Out of interest do you mean on these particular cars or in general? I just had a 911 Carrera Cabrio as a courtesy car for a week and to me the interior looked the same as on the 981 Boxsters. Is there a noticeable difference?
Well the 991 I took out ad leather/stitching to the doors and dash.
I am not sure if this was standard or extra on a 991s. I could be wrong but I think it was standard.
My Cayman has the full leather interior which isnt standard which raises it to the level of the 991 I drove.
don't think those pics does it justice... the full leather option does take the interior to another level compared to the partial leather - esp on the dash

Indeed, fair point.

Don't know if I'm going into this in too much detail for this thread but does one need to spec the leather dash in addition to the full leather option when specifying the seats? On the options list there seems to be a pricy option for full leather (seats) and then loads more leather bits even leather seat belt buckles and a leather trimmed steering wheel binnacle.
cheaper seats is just seats in leather, next option on seats is effectively extended leather (dash etc)
but yes, after that you can leather up your heater vents if you like!!
Just to be clear, if you spec leather seats and full leather, dash and door tops are covered in leather with stitching. Happy to do a couple of pics tomorrow.
