Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Somehow a spider crawled inside my right side headlight assembly and died in there, and Im at a loss for how to get it out. Unfortunately removing the fog light bulb doesnt provide any access to this part of the headlight because theres still a round lens in the way. Is there any way to get into this area to remove it outside of baking the headlight to separate it (which I really dont want to have to resort to doing)?

POST 2Original post

Put a spiderweb sticker next to him it will look 3d cool

POST 3Original post

You might have some luck with removing a bulb and connecting a vacuum cleaner to the access hole (sealing it well). If that doesn't work, I'm not sure if one can remove the fog light assembly without taking the whole unit apart, so some .2 headlight guys will have to weigh in on that.

Or tell people it's a sign for a secret organization, wink-wink. Rennachnids maybe. Seriously, it looks like you have litronics. You should be able to access that area by going in around the litronic reflector. But you'll only get a wire in there, not a lot more. Maybe try standing the assembly on its nose and tapping, to see if you at least relocate the poor arachnid?

The latter is what I would recommend. Try to get the spider close to the fog light projector and then try to vacuum it out with a vacuum attachment through the fog light access port!

POST 6Original post

Dont use a wire you'll scratch the paint. Blow it out with compressed air

I offer you one suggestion. (See attached picture) There is a vent (ref red arrow) that runs beneath the main projector section. Remove the enclosure and try to shake the spider to that location. Good luck.

Thanks for the picture! Yes that is an open area around the HID reflector. The entire reflector moves during headlight adjustment which is why there is a gap there.

You sure about that? The active leveling mechanism is located behind the HID projector lens not the lower halogen (i.e. brights) bulb section. I've never known the halogen section to be adjustable. I've adjusted my HID main lights many times but never the other bulbs.

POST 10Original post

On the 996.1 the adjustment is tilting the entire reflector section, HID and halogen, the tilt mechanism for the litronics is also moving the entire thing. Never looked inside a 996.2 but from the picture above it looks very similar to the .1.

I'm referencing the mk2 style. Unless I'm missing something here, the 996.2 HID (aka litronics) systems have self leveling mechanisms (i.e. motor, sensor, etc.). You can fine tune these beams to the correct position. Watch the leveling mechanism in action... You Tube Dissected... I believe this is the mk1 Litronic. You Tube

POST 12Original post

Second video is certainly not .1, different leveling motor and ballast, you can see a .1 teardown at You Tube
