Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There are so many threads about insurance costs that I thought it might be a good idea to have a standard template covering all the requirements, so that a better comparison can be made between quotes. If you think I have forgotten any important elements, please let me know and I'll add them to the template. These are the details of my insurance. Once we get a decent number of replies, I'll probably move this thread to the FAQ section as a permanent record. Lowest quote was SwiftCover (388), but they wouldn't protect my ncb due to 1 at fault accident, had 1000 excess and non european cover. Interestingly Direct line was 100 more than priviledge ("You don't have to be Porsche to be Priviledge"), who they own. Also, Priviledge's on-line system quoted me 80 more for my Carrera (2) than a Carrera 4 !!

Worth adding Broker and Insurer/Underwriter as seperate in the template: e.g. Like Diesel130, I'm with Academy but my insurer is NIG and his is Norwich Union (or Norwich Onion as he calls them [ ]) Sorry, can't contribute as I have one of those mid-engine Porsche Edit: Thanks Kish & Diesel. I've also added breakdown cover.

POST 19Original post

Just found this thread and thought I ought to mention something which may well interest those who have an imported i.e.non UK spec car. I have recently found out that mine is not a C16 and as such doesn't have a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm system and as such is NOT covered for theft by my insurer, Norwich Union. My broker reckons that none of the main stream insurers cover cars without this alarm system, which has been standard in the UK for the last 10 years, for theft. Some of them also won't cover you for damage to your own car too, even if you were fully comp. Just thought I'd mention it. PS. Yes, I'm suing the supplying dealer! [ ]

After several phone calls it turns out that Hastings policy (which is not written down anywhere in their literature) is to only cover courtesy cars under £20,000 in value. I'm not sure how they can ever cover a courtesy car for porsche, bmw, mercedes, jaguar etc... The garages apparently now no longer provide insurance for their loan cars - so being insured with Hastings means I am unable to get my car serviced easily! I am trying to find out what happens in the event of an accident, since my chosen repair garage would of course be Porsche - who would then provide the loan car! *** If I change insurance - has anyone tested their insurance company's courtesy car policy?

A bit obscure but does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure my 2003 c4s for laid up cover. It's the subject of a court case but is in my garage and i should insure it, against fire only would suit me. Thanks.

Tricky one because most insurers won't want to know, but give these people a try:- http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/

I do like a bargain and been stuck with Privilege for the past 3 years (Porsche and non-Porsche policies) because no other companies were coming close to their quotes. Under 30 with a 996TT in East London isn't the best combo for cheap insurance! However, the only company I rang this year was Academy on the recommendation of Richard, nice simple broker with polite people to help and that they did. Every year I pay around £1400 and Academy shaved this down to £1095 "" excellent! Until the documents arrived and didn't allow me to drive other cars as I am under 30, next best policy they could offer was £1500. So as much as this company never quotes me less than £2k, I am totally shocked to be insured with Admiral now: Car: 996TT Renewal Date: Dec 08 Age: 29 Postcode: E16 Occupation: Head of Professional Services No Claims Bonus: 7 years Protected: Yes Where Kept Overnight: Underground car park Cover: Compressive Drivers: Just me Licence held/time: 12 years Useage: SDP Mileage limitation: 10,000 Legal Protection: Yes European Cover (days free): 45 days Guaranteed Courtesy Car: No (£29.99 for the option) Breakdown Cover: No Drive other cars (3rd Party): Yes Accidents: N/A Convictions: N/A Tracker required: Not sure "" have one though Insurance Company/Underwriter: Admiral Premium: £1103 Excess (Accident and theft): £450 including £200 voluntary "" checked twice! I also found 911 996 Turbo to be cheaper than a regular C4. Can anyone explain this to me???? How extra 120bhp and car worth twice as much is less risk??

POST 61 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I expect it comes down to claims history. My guess would be that Turbos tend to be owned more as second cars and simply get used less than Carreras. Hence there are less claims, and insurers think they are a better risk.

My insurance on my M3 would not touch a 911. I tried everyone and everyone over 1500 so I picked up a form from opc. Porsche insurance services, wow, very good cant remember the total but it was excellent. Came through the porsche in porsche headed paper, even has free cover if you race it at the porsche racing track. Everyone try it, you will be shocked.

Hi all, I have had great difficulty finding insurance now that i have admitted to having had my UK licence since Early 2008, although i have driven here and had accidents and fines without any major issues before that time since 2000 (1998 if my MC is to be included). I have held a licence since 1992 from Norway, which is my home country. My premium has basically shot up, even though I have full no claims on one car and a few on another. Now, Why is that? My licence is recognised as an international licence and on par with EU rules etc.. Any suggestions/tips are welcome as I have had to drop the mileage and I dare not think how much a Turbo will cost me.. Gareth - you should consider putting your wife on the policy, as it often reduces the premium. You don't need to tell her of course! previous post 68 Renewal Nov 2010 with ClassicLine (KGM Modern Classic) £422 with a very good guaranteed valuation figure.... obtained from PCGB & valid for 2 years that's £32 cheaper than last year with the wife having a bump last xmas in my every day commute! £250 excess with no voluntary loaded limited to 5k miles, european cover but no track days even tho' I live 20 miles north of stevenage, still come under the lottery postcode SG.... Strangely, I did read an article the other day saying some insurers were quoting cheaper if your car was parked on road as opposed to driveway as would be thieves wouldn't know where you lived....... Definately need to shop around! Paul (kasspa)

POST 80Original post

Hi Can someone recommend insurance companies cheaper than comparison websites? Wife is 31 with 6 years no claims no points and Im going to be 29. I ran a quick quote on moneysupermarket with me as a named drive and it came up with around £1100 on a 2002 C4s.

POST 81Original post

see i do not understand this? i just called them, im 26 and have 5 years no claims, no accidents etc same car and they want to charge me 1300? oh and i have a secured garage?

POST 82 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Most likely it's the difference in Post Code.

POST 83Original post

I've got mine through swiftcover (AXA I think), I used 5 years of no claims on the 911, 12k annual mileage (way more than enough considering I have only done 750 in nearly the past 6 months), includes SD&P + commuting, excess is pretty high around 500 if I recall correctly though. Premium was around £380.00 with my wife added, without her it jumped up by another £150.00 which is crazy considering she is younger than me! I always add her on to my policies now, seems to always make them cheaper.

Over the past two years, I insured the Turbo and a V8 Range Rover with them "for under a thousand pounds". Year before last, the total was £960, last year it was £970. This year, they were unable to compete (sadly) so I shopped around. HT gave me the best deal on the Turbo (above) whilst I used Admiral (via the internet) for the other car (£402). This gives an overall increase since last year of around 5% - not bad considering the parasitic "no win no fee" lot.

POST 89Original post

Yeah its wierd, i just shopped around i like the comparison sites to get a rough idea how much i should be paying but some were charging double that. Now ive hit the bit 25 im expecting it to be around £1000. Also the no claims can make a big difference as you say you have 5 years to my 6, im renewing next month anyway so i should probably start shopping around.

POST 97Original post

Hi guys, Just seen this thread and I would recommend for some of you insuring your car under a classic insurance policy. I just insured my 2002 3.6 tip cabrio for £407 with 3000 mile limitation. On a standard policy, it was going to cost me around £800. Quite an impressive saving. The insurer insisted I be a member of an owners club though.......

POST 98Original post

Mine moved from 380 to 460 last Sep through Swiftcover. That is a 996 C2, using 7 years NCB on it now and 12k SDP, 32 years at the time of renewing, IT consultant. Admiral was about 20.00 cheaper, but this was on a multicar policy which it didn't make sense to move to (would have not been worth it as I would have lost out getting back premium from SC). Without multicar they were more expensive by over £100. Interestingly Swift wanted £600 for the MG! LOL, hence moving that to Admiral at a reasonable 270. The fun will commence again come this September!

POST 99Original post

HT (above) came down a lot following a phone call to the above total and remained extremely competitive. Adrian Flux quoted £595 for broadly the same with an extra £x for this and £y for that (and a bit too much hard sell). I didn't feel comfortable with them so continued with HT so a 7% increase since last year. I managed to get the Range Rover down to £257 with Elephant (big saving) so overall paying £921 for both. A decrease of 10% versus last year.

POST 103 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have checked the policy documents and can't find that anywhere, but I'll get out my fine-toothed comb tonight. I always keep the car in the garage overnight anyway. I think most companies would take a dim view of insuring the car on the basis of it being garaged, and then leaving it on the driveway all night.

POST 104Original post

Agreed, but there might well be an occasion you're going out again after 10pm or perhaps storing something in your garage overnight, in which case, leaving it on your forecourt, it wouldn't be insured. But by leaving on your neighbours' forecourt, it would be covered! [8|] It's worth checking. I always garage mine, but decided to pay the little extra (about £25 from memory) for forecourt cover just to be on the safe side. [ ] Regards, Clive.

POST 105Original post

Richard, Did you manage to check your policy? I'd be interested to hear if that stipulation is still being included. Regards, Clive.

POST 106 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I read every word of all the LV policy documents, and couldn't find any mention of it. I am familiar with the clause, as the policy I have for the 3.2 includes it. Coincidentally, the renewal for that came through on Friday. Down from £409 last year to £330 this year - same insurer, same cover. Go figure. For the first time in my driving history, the road tax on my main car is more than the insurance. [ ]

Just had my renewal through from ClassicLine, £9 increase from last year to £394, so thought I'd do a little comparison..... Especially seeing others on here paying +/- around the £200 pound mark & given that I do live in 'rural' Bedfordshire!! Well online quotes I got were astonishing: Lancaster £678.63 Heritage £774.22 with a combined excess of £850 Admiral were the closest at £367 but then I wouldn't get Agreed Valuation that lasts 2 years...... So, no brainer then, CL for me for 4th consecutive year Comprehensive.
