Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hello Porsche friends! I am looking to put a clear engine cover on my 2007 cayman anyone who wants to get rid of their used ones? Please DM me or send mr an email [email removed] thanks!

POST 2Original post

Not trolling you, but am curious as to why you want a clear cover. I mean, unless you religiously clean your engine it's not the prettiest view. Moreover, the aluminum cover is a firewall meant to ensure that in the event of an engine compartment fire no smoke or flames enter the vehicle, and a clear plexiglass cover will almost certainly melt thus defeating the purpose of the firewall. Sorry, I just don't get it. Are you looking to emulate certain Ferraris? Ferraris that have visible engine covers have the engine outside of the cabin, so if a fire occurred it will not infiltrate the cabin. Just asking.........

POST 3Original post

Can't speak for OP but this is a common ask. I also wanted it for a while just because it looks cool imo. I know some people think it's not a pretty engine, but I think it's a cool view even if it's not as picturesque as some other engines. I would also be looking for a clear cover if I hadn't gone another direction and put patches on my cloth engine cover (or more accurately on a cloth wrapped on that foam/carpet section above the aluminum).

POST 4Original post

Yeah, I'm of the same mind. Cleaning the motors in our cars is NOT the easiest thing in the world. Pretty much a PITA.

POST 5Original post

The same car will look different in every man’s hands. I just make sure my car has the prettiest view for me.

POST 6Original post

How often do you currently clean your engine? BTW, you intro post was not very informative.

POST 7Original post

Before buying her current 2007 Cayman S , my wife and I test drove a car with the glass engine panel. It was noticeably louder than the car in stock configuration. It actually turned us off from that particular car because the rest of the spec was awesome.

POST 8Original post

As I said, to each his own of course. But a Porsche should sound like a Porsche , not a muted vacuum cleaner. 😉😋

POST 9Original post

Ironically, it sounded more like a vacuum because the air rushing in the intake was really noticeable, and not in a good way. Her car now sports an AWE exhaust so it sounds great.

POST 10Original post

I went the way of the clear cover, have zero regrets and love the look. Also opted for the LED light kit. Search Henry Chea. His entire kit is top notch and the increase of engine noise is minimal. I happen to like the engine sound from my 981. I don’t have the outer trim on yet in this pic .

POST 11Original post

Cool idea. I did see where they can get dirty pretty quickly. I wanted one for my 2015 981 but they don't make them.

POST 12Original post

Henry Chea does & I got mine from him-2014 981 . He has a really good kit & well done too https://www.718forum.com/threads/718-gts-4-0-clear-engine-cover.29797/
