Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nothing is ever easy is it? All set to spend part of bank holiday changing disks and pads on my 2005 996 C4S so was about to place order only to find I am offered choice of 2 sizes of disk. And thus pads. Can anyone save me making the wrong call! My guess is that it will be the bigger ones for my car, but the obvious answer isn't always the right one...

POST 2Original post

Discs for 4S Porsche part numbers: Left 996 351 409 02 Right 996 351 410 02 They are the same as for 996 Turbo

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for that Geoff, although I'm not sure it will help. Planning on EBC disks and pads, so depends on whether they recognise the OEM part numbers. We will see.

POST 5Original post

I'm planning on changing the front discs on my 997.1 standard 3.6 and am aware that the diameters are different from the S model. You're right to be cautious about which ones to order but assuming you are replacing your 'standard' or factory fitted ones, then take a look at EBCs web site, where they list each model of car and appropriate discs for it, click here to see , when you're on that page, press 'CTRL' and 'F' on your keyboard (means find on this page) then type in your cars specific mode (Eg. 997 or GTS), your browser will/should highlight the model you have typed in on the page to aid you with narrowing down your search. Ps. I knew the Carrera and Carrera 'S' models have different diameter discs but looking at EBC's web page (in the link above) there are all sorts of different diameters of discs for the range of models of the 911 So you do have to be careful when handing over your credit card details in case there is a re-stocking fee or difficult to return policy in place. Not to mention the inconvenience of having taken yours apart only to find out the discs (and pads) are the wrong size. While we're on here. I have seen several discs and pads on eBay. For example these MEYLE PLATINUM DISCS for just £92 a pair (fronts). Does platinum (coating I suppose) have any advantage over other types? And what about the Brembo discs PORSCHE FRONT DRILLED BRAKE DISCS BREMBO PADS at £179.99 (with 25 pairs already sold). These look very attractive to me and are what I'm considering. Can anyone please say if these discs should be avoided for any obvious reason and if so, is that because they are simply not as good/wont last as long (due to different materials) or simply because the manufacturers are not reputable companies? Having said that, here is a PAIR GENUINE PORSCHE 997 C2 C4 FRONT BRAKE DISCS NEW up for sale at £377 , again not very economic compared to EBCoption you are contemplating or the above options. Good luck.

POST 6Original post

Lots of good info there, Tamer. I guess those Merle Platinums must have the coating on the hub - not much point anywhere else! Be interested to read the details of that anti-rust guarantee. Brembo disks are good, but their pads are very dusty in my experience. Cheers, Russ

POST 7Original post

Thanks for the tip Russ. After your comment, differentiating between discs and pads, I went back and took another look at that eBay item and note that it states "PORSCHE FRONT DRILLED BRAKE DISCS " " +BREMBO PADS ", so I'm not sure that the discs themselves are Brembos now. Reading the full description I'm still none the wiser. I will have to fire a question before I commit to anything but am not so sure that I will, now that there's suspicion in my mind about the lack of clarity. It might just be the way it has been written, although I like things to be clearer than this. Worth a question though. I'm not in a rush, just at planning stage at the moment so I may come across something more attractive. Like an OEM pair for around £200 would be nice. Thanks again. Tam.

POST 8Original post

No problem [ ] Ferodo Premier pads are great for a daily driver and remarkable value (I use froogle,.com to find them) , if that helps even more. Ferodo D2500s are better if you're going to track the car. Cheers, Russ
