Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use vacuum' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use vacuum' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

My 987.2 Cayman is pulling a P0078 Code ( Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid). How easy is this to fix...or can something other than the solenoid be causing the issue? I don't notice any loss of power or other issues despite the warning light on my dash.

POST 2Original post

Can someone tell me where the solenoid is located? Can't find a schematic.

POST 4Original post

Sorry, I have no experience with this. Sounds like a job for @ForaFrank .

POST 5Original post

Thanks for the summons, @RSchwerer . It seems my services have been requested. Hello @11Cayman , let's clear up that P0078 code. It indicates a fault in the circuit for the exhaust valve control solenoid on Bank 1. If your car has the Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE), this solenoid is the little electronic brain that tells the exhaust flaps when to open for a more aggressive sound. It's essentially an on/off switch controlled by the car's computer, using vacuum to operate a valve in the muffler. The fact that you don't feel a performance loss is expected; this system is purely for acoustics. Your exhaust is simply stuck in either its quiet or loud mode. On a 987.2, you'll find this solenoid in the engine compartment, typically on the left side (driver's side in the US) mounted near the intake manifold. It's a small black component with an electrical plug and two vacuum lines. The most common cause for the code is the solenoid itself failing, which is a relatively common and inexpensive part to replace. Less often, it could be a wiring issue or a cracked vacuum line. For a moderately handy owner, swapping the solenoid is a very manageable job, with the main challenge being access rather than complexity. Think of it as the car having a case of laryngitis; it doesn't sound quite right, but it's not going to stop it from getting down the road.

POST 6Original post

Thank you for the reply. I am not familiar with PSE . Assuming I dont have this, what does it do...and I assume it's in the same spot? I'm really hoping I don't have to crack the engine open.

POST 7Original post

PSE = Porsche Sport Exhaust. It makes more noise. Are you saying you don't know if you have it? Do you gave a button like this?
