I'm interested in removing an painting the following interior pieces: All of the grey metallic horizontal trim strips including the cupholder cover (there are 5 pieces total) and the grey metallic steering wheel trim. I would like to paint it body color, to mach the console which I recently painted and it looks fabulous. My car is a

base Boxter MY 2010.
I'm guessing that a pry too and tape will do the job, but I have a lot of trauma fr braking trip tabs in the past...
Here are two pics where I have drawn arrows to show the pieces I want to remove to have them painted
Very curious about what you learn as I am thinking of doing the same.
For the steering wheel, the installation instructions for these paddle shifter conversions is the only place I’ve seen how to remove the steering wheel face:

kind of unfortunately for me, I have the multi function wheel which will makes things a bit more challenging.
Do you have any information or references of how you painted your center console?
I'll check that out thanks! For the center console, it was removed to replace my broken shifter cables. So I didn't have to remove it myself but there is a lot of info on how to do it on YouTube. I brought it to my body shop guy who painted it with matched body color paint (he was doing the bumperette already)
The center console is a lot easier to take out, than the steering wheel trim. I've done the console a few times with not too much effort, but I've given up on the steering wheel trim, when I was re-wrapping the leather. I had found a description for it somewhere, but it just didn't budge when I tried.
My plan for this winter is to get the console painted the same color as the steering wheel and dash trim. If you don't mind, how much did you pay to get it painted? And did you do any prep beforehand yourself, or had the body shop do it all?
Hi, I had the broken shifter cable replaced with
numeric cables
, and while I waited for the cables I took the console to my body guy (whom I been going to for 10+ years) and he painted it body color for like 250$ (friends and fam rate)
I would really like to paint the trim strip and steering wheel trim body color (silver) if I can figure out how to get the parts off. I'd just drop them at the same guy...
The horizontal trim pulls straight out - and that's important - STRAIGHT out, don't pry up or down, you'll break it. STRAIGHT out. The trim on the cupholder just clips onto the plastic flip-down door under the trim, a small putty knife will pop it off.
The steering wheel trim is about impossible. I broke some trying to take it off to put a wrap on my old steering wheel. I replaced the entire wheel with one that has paddles and the shiny aluminum, which invokes the original speedster look IMHO.
Let's see if I can find a picture..
My console is also white..
The cupholder looks the same as on my

. If so, then first pop off the trim piece to its right, which covers a screw to remove before trying to pull out the cupholder unit. Its two retaining clips are released by wedging a thin tool between the upper edge of the unit and the lower edge of the dashboard. It may take a little wiggling to get both sides free and slide the unit out.
I did all the trim in my T to match my custom door straps. Instead of paint, I did homemade water-slide decals, so it is reversible.
